"Did you kidnap my parents? What did they do? What do you want?"
Of all emotions swirling in my head, anger got to my mouth first. But then i finally had a rational thought. If they had been kidnapped..why did the woman who was supposedly my mother give the man permission to say who they were. But were they really my parents? If my mom was dead why was she in my driveway. And my father...was relocated. I didn't know what was going on but I wanted answers.
"Isabelle please come with me" One of the men began to talk. He took a step towards me.
"Back off. I am not going anywhere with you!"
Then an advantage. I always did my best work under pressure. Actually...second best. Adrenaline made me do my best work. So i started thinking. I could take them...I had a blackbelt. Then again they were pretty muscular. Bad idea. I could run for it...no. I would stay and get some God damn answers.
"Isabelle we arent going to hurt you..." The other man spoke.
"Shut up. Stop talking! It's my turn to get some answers. Nobody talks and you do not lay a finger on me"
Nobody moved. Finally, I had control. Now I needed to get the most important question out first...i didn't know how long this control would last.
"I need to know it's you dad. Get out of the shadow." I was on the verge of tears...and a breakdown. This couldn't be happening.
He stepped out from the dark and into the light. I could see his face. His green eyes. They used to mean my best friend...love...now they were betrayal. If it was really my dad...what was going on. question two.
"What is going on. Is mom dead? Is that really her?" I couldn't stop. I was having a great night...in five minutes I had more questions than I could comprehend.
"Isabelle, this is really your mother. She never died. She had to go some place safe for a while. A place I had been when you were born."
THis couldn't be happening. I wasn't sure if I could trust him or her. Everything made no sense. Yet somehow I felt safe, with my dad and Jake in the next room. I wanted to have my dinner with Jake and tell him everything. But I also wanted more answers.
"Dad there is somebody I want you to meet. His name is Jake. We were trying to have dinner to celebrate"
It was like old times...I wanted to tell my dad everything. Then he spoke.
"I know. That's why your mother and I came. It's about the bank." He stepped up on the porch and the men left. I hugged him and used all celf control to not start crying. Over his shoulders I looked at the woman. She was still there. My dad stopped hugging me and I looked at him. He had the same green eyes I had. He had short, aged brown hair. I wanted to talk to my mom.
"Mom, what happened to you?" I said to the woman I had visioned every night as a girl when my father would tell me stories about her.
My mother stepped towards me. I could see her. She had hair just like me. Her face was hardly aged at all. She looked so good for being her age. No breath was left in me. She had a smile on her face that was completely out of place. Yet she seemed so happy and confident.
"mom...where have you been? I missed you."
She answered like it was a simple question. Yet the answer was as out of place as her smile.
"Mommy had to go to work."
