She coughs dahlias.
She hides it behind her bright eyes and big smiles. She sweeps them underneath the Dining Hall tables, only for the elves to discover later; "Dobby, Winkie has discovered these wet red flowers. They must have drifted in through the windows."
Unlike her best friend, she refuses to believe in fake folklore. She refuses to believe that these red, beautiful petals that come out of her represent a silly crush.
Except they get worse.
She lies in the Gryffindor girls' dormitories in the middle of the night, coughing so harshly that Hermione comes in, demanding her to see Madam Pomfrey. She distracts Hermione's concerned eyes from the sink, covered in damp red petals.
"Ginny, have you caught a cold?"
Green, glowing eyes appear in her view and she resists staring in them for too long. They are like nothing she has ever seen, emerald green and shining with as warmly as their Common Room's hearth. Her heart races and she coughs.
Covering her mouth, she coughs out big petals into her hands. She hides them with a quick pocketing of her hands and faces her Harry with a bright smile, excusing herself for a break.
Hermione rushes over to her and gives her a disapproving look, "Ginny, are you sure you're alright? Your coughing seems to be getting worse. Maybe you should see Madam-"
"Really Hermione, I'm alright."
Her brown eyes don't leave Harry's form. There's something about him that makes her heart clench and beat fast, something about him that makes her lung fill up with red petals. There's something about him that makes her want to forget.
The flowers she coughs up are so red and dripping in blood, and she wonders how did she get here?
Later, when she sees him giving a vengeful glare towards Bellatrix Lestrange. She knows instantly that a man like him could never be chained down with someone like her.
There's a fire in his eyes that glow brighter than before, and she's drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
The fire spreads to her lungs and it burns.
