I'm Still Here

Remembering back to when she nearly got shot in her lab the first time, he made a promise. A promise to never let anything bad happen to her, it was a promise he intended to keep- no matter what. This is how he ended up getting shot this time. For her. To protect her like he'd vowed to do.
Not long after Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs got discharged from the hospital, demanding that he didn't need to be there and that he was fine, found himself sat on the edge of his bed with the very person he'd been protecting. Abby Sciuto.
Slowly peeling away his polo shirt, adamant that she was going to check his wound, much to his protests- he allowed her to. Gibbs silently gave her permission to check and re-applied fresh gauze and dressing to prevent further discomfort and infection.
It'd almost happened again, because of him. Losing someone close to his heart like Shannon and Kelly, Jenny Shepard and Kate Tod. And he damn well wasn't about to let it happened to Abby. He cared too much for the young Forensic Scientist, way more then he should've let himself.
"You're thinking too loudly, Gibbs." Abby murmured to lighten the tension between the pair.
Pulling her hand away from his shoulder, turning it over in his own, he gently brushed his lips over her palm.
"Don't you dare," Abby warned. Predicting that he was going to apologise for putting her in danger and nearly getting her killed again.
"Abby, I could have lost-" his next sentence was interrupted by her lips gently grazing over his. She smiled warily at him as she rested her forehead against his.
"No 'could've', 'would've', 'ifs' or 'buts', Gibbs," she demanded. Taking his right hand in hers and placing it on her chest, above her heart. "I'm here, I'm fine. And that's all that matters."
Realising what she was trying to explain, feeling her heart beating strongly underneath his hand. Making him come to realise that she was indeed still there. With him. Her heart beating just for him.
