Views on God
In my opinion, there are three possibilities for a god.
God created humankind
Humans created God
God does not exist
Let's take them one at a time, shall we?
1) God created humankind- This is the view most commonly heard by Christians, Jews, ancient Greeks, and most of the religions that are well known around the world. If this hypothesis is true, then one thing must be true: God exists and exists independently. If this is the case, then it is impossible to say why God created humans (and presumable the Universe), unless maybe for entertainment (which is actually a pretty good reason for existence, seeing as that's what many people do for a living anyway…). Also, this means that God does not need humans, and therefore, probably does not really care if humans believe in Him/Her/It.
2) Humans created God- First, let me explain what I mean by this. Humans, through their need for explanations and power of belief, brought into being a nearly all-powerful being. This being cannot be all-powerful, of course, because it was created, however, it generally has all of the other qualities that humans give it. This means that all of the gods that have ever been imagined were at one time real, and they become more powerful as they get more believers. Thus, struggles between religious groups can be interpreted as life struggles between their respective gods, who are all vying for survival and believers. (For more on this point of view, read Terry Pratchett's Small Gods, which is a remarkable piece of fiction.)
3) God does not exist- I think this one is fairly self-explanatory, however, if anyone wishes for me to expand on this, say so in a review and I will.
Have fun!
