I'd been to Diagon Alley before, my parents are purebloods so they often come in for this or that reasons and I get to go every once in a while. Every time was as wondrous as the first but this... This time I would be getting not only but my supplies for my first year at Hogwarts, but a wand. Soon I would learn to cast spells and control the power within me. I couldn't wait.
My parents split up as we go there, my father the business walked off to see other men with can't-be-bothered expressions and business robes pressed to perfection. My mother pressed a small pouch of coins into my hand, muttering something about me getting my supplies as she hurried off to a meeting she was late for. She worked with broom design and was reaching out to their biggest clients about some new prototype they wanted to reveal.
I frowned after her but as my eyes focused in on all the chaotic movement of the alley I couldn't help but smile. There was a family hurrying into Flourish & Blotts, the mother looking at a list as the father ushered the two kids about my age inside and I wondered if I'd be seeing either of them at Hogwarts. Feeling my excitement grow I made my way down to Ollivanders, no way was I going to wait to get my wand. But I paused just outside the duty looking shop, letting a grin spread across my face as I took it in, this was it. I opened the door.
There were two girls already there, sisters it seemed, giggling as an old man who I assumed was Mr. Ollivanders, handed the taller of the two a wand. I walked over to the side, letting the tips of my fingers glide along the edge of the dusty shelves, my eyes scanning the many boxes. Just as I began reading the script on one particular box, one of the girls let out a excited squeal.
I turned to see the shorter of the sisters clap her hands of her mouth, her eyes wide, staring at the wand in her sisters hand. A wand had found its owner. My eyes flicked back to the box as I walked closer to the others, patiently waiting for them to exchange wand and galleons.
I walked up to Mr. Ollivander as they left, my excitement waning a bit as anxiety tried to take hold. I nodded numbly as he asked questions, not really hearing what I was being asked, next thing I know a wand is being places in my hand.
Nothing.
My eye brows scrunched together in annoyance, I knew I wouldn't get my wand first try but for nothing to happen... I quickly put the wand down and grabbed another, not noticing as Mr. Ollivander walked away, again nothing. I shoved the wand away, looking at the boxes Mr. Ollivander carried back with him with hoping mine was there. He placed down the boxes and pulled one out, giving it a close look and then handing it to me. A small ball of fire shot toward the ceiling and he snatched the wand from my hand.
Muttering to himself, he opened a few boxes and looked at them for a bit before shaking his head and putting it away. 3...4...5...6 wands he put away. Finally he handed my one. A small smile graced my lips, it was like nothing I had ever felt before, every thing slipped away.
This was my wand
