Okay just a little something I wrote last night at 11:30 so don't judge too critically! Just a one-shot. Will and Tessa and their library belong to Cassie! Jane Eyre is Charlotte Brontë's work. Thank you and enjoy!
Will was in the library, a residence that he now more than ever had taken up. Lay in his lap was a worn copy of Jane Eyre. Of course he had read it enough times to quote, but he needed something familiar now. With all that had been going through in his mind, he needed something stable.
He had nearly lost his Tessa. This girl that somehow got past all of those barriers he put up. Will had been so used to being alone. No feeling of love, or for that matter, loss. Yet she got past him. And now he would do anything to keep her safe. But no matter what he did, she stayed in his thoughts. Even reading, his usual brooding activity, was failing him. Perhaps it was due to the fact that everything he read reminded him of Tessa. Aloud he muttered to himself, "I care for myself. The more solitary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myself." He found it amusing in his dark state that he still had the uncanny irony of describing one's feelings in book quotes.
A creak of he door pulled Will out of his stupor as he looked up to see who was bothering him. There stood an unsure Tessa Gray. They locked eyes for a moment. Her stormy grey orbs looking into his soul, then flitting away in nervousness. By the angel, did she understand the effect she had on him? Before getting lost in his thoughts again, Will roughly cleared his throat.
Tessa gave a startled look, as though she too were deep in thought. Quietly she said, " Looks as though we both had the same thought." Will just nodded to her and looked back down to Jane Eyre, figuring that soon enough she would choose a book and leave him to his solitude. Understanding, she went to work, browsing the shelves. She wandered to the Charles Dickens section, grabbing out Great Expectations. But instead of leaving to find a place to read, instead she stopped to look at will. He looked up from his reading, and as a blush reached her cheeks, she quickly settled into the chair next to where he was sitting. Will thought about leaving and finding another place to read, but truthfully he liked watching her.
It didn't take Tessa long to delve into her book, and soon she was unaware of the world around her. Will watched as her facial features softened as when one is taken in by their book. She was beautiful. Her soft brown hair caressed her face, and pink lips opened slightly, as her lips turned upward in delight. For someone with the ability to change appearance, will wanted nothing more than to see Tessa as Tessa. This strange American girl who unintentionally won his heart.
Too soon did she shut the book, and look up at will. In that look was all of the pent up emotions that she felt for him. If only she knew that in his unguarded gaze, those feelings were reflected. Pushing back her weakness , Tessa looked down at what he had previously been indulging in. And with a soft smile she quoted, "I would always rather be happy than dignified". And with that Tessa gathered herself and left the room, the door shutting between them.
A breathe will hadn't been aware he had been holding rushed out of his lungs. He had been untouchable to love, after the curse. But that all changed the moment he was hit in the head with that vase. She was not waiting for her hero, she was going to save herself. She was a true Jane Eyre. A heroine. If only she could save him as well.
That is all thank you for reading loves! Review if you wish!
