Disclaimer: Harry Potter is not mine.
Dennis,
I've gone to Hogwarts. Harry came back its time to fight. I'll see you when its over. Take care and don't worry. Give Mom and Dad my love.
Colin
Dennis Creevey sits on his brother's unmade bed holding a small, tattered piece of parchment that had been left on his nightstand in the middle of the night. It has been hours since he'd found it and his brother is still nowhere to be seen.
He hadn't known how to tell their parents; so he just showed them the message Colin left. Ever since then, his mother has been cleaning everything in sight and his father has been smoking his pipe in the living room nonstop, glancing out the window every few moments. Dennis tries to be calm, but worry and anger keep gnawing at him. He is terrified that something is going to happen to Colin, and he's furious because his sixteen year old brother had gone off to fight in a war and left him behind with just a note telling him not to worry.
As the minutes and hours tick by with no word from his brother, Dennis begins to feel that something is terribly wrong. He hears a small cracking sound outside, and it feels like a bucket of ice cold water has been thrown on him; when he hears knocking on the front door, his heart begins to clench. He is halfway down the staircase when his mother starts screaming "My baby. Not my baby."
And he knew.
His legs feel like they're about to give out from under him as he reaches the bottom of the stairs, and he sees his father holding his mother tightly against him, tears running down both their faces. Standing in the doorway is a burly man with brown hair he vaguely recognizes as Oliver Wood. Oliver has a grim look on his face as he hands Dennis two items: a wand and a gold coin.
As Dennis reaches for them, a small, tattered piece of parchment falls from his hands and floats to the ground.
Two boys were sitting on a bench swing, one eleven and one nine.
", do you have to leave tomorrow?" asked the younger of the pair.
"Of course I need to leave, Dennis," was the reply," I have to go to school."
"But Hogwarts is so far away. I'm going to be here all alone."
"Mum and Dad are still going to be here; besides, I'll never really leave you. We can write to each other all the time."
"Promise, Colin?"
"I promise, Dennis."
A/N: So what do you think? Good? Bad?
