This wasn't happening to her. Her best friend was dead and not only was he her best friend, they loved each other.
"Mary Poppins, come on." Jane said intertwining her hand through Mary's.
"I-I can't." She sobbed as she turned around and ran back outside into the pouring rain.
She stopped at the end of the curb and she was out of breath, so she slunk down against the wall and cried and screamed into her hands.
"Why!? Why'd you leave me Bert! You swore you never would! And I believed you!" She screamed.
"Mary?" Someone asked.
She looked up and through the blinding rain, she saw Bert standing before her, dressed as a chimney sweep.
"Bert!" She said as she sat up straighter and wiped her eyes, which didn't make a difference it was still raining.
"I made a promise, and I'll keep it." He said crouching down in front of her and putting his hand on her cheek.
"But Bert." Mary said.
"Don't worry, remember that you'll have someone else to remind you I'm around." He said and with a smile, he was gone.
Mary waved her hand in the air and then she stood up slowly. She walked back to the curch and Uncle Albert was waiting for her.
"I'm sorry Mary my dear." He said taking her hand into his.
"Yes Mary Poppins, we are so very sorry." Michael said taking her other hand.
"I'm ok, let's go inside." She replied and they all walked in and sat in the front row.
Later on that night, Mary was in her bed with her knees curled up to her chest and she was thinking very hard. Jane walked into her room and gave her a surprised look.
"Are you ok?" She asked.
"I'll be fine, just go back to bed." She replied as she looked up and smiled.
Jane was glad to see that smile on her face, she nodded and walked back to talk to her brother.
"Michael, I think for the first time since Bert's death, Mary Poppins has found a reason to be happy." Jane said crawling back into bed and turning the light off.
Mary had laid down on her bed and was looking up at the cieling. She wished everything that had happened was just a dream, but she knew she would make it. She put her hand on her stomache and sighed, Bert had been right, he'd left her with something that'd remind her for the rest of her life and with Bert on her mind, she fell asleep.
"Baby why'd you leave me
Why'd you have to go?
I was counting on forever
Now I'll never know
I can't even breathe
It's like I'm looking from a distance
Standing in the background
Everybody's saying he's not coming home now
This can't be happening to me
This is just a dream"
Yes it was short, yes I may have left you confused but I'll give a cookie to anyone who can figure out what I mean!
