A/N: Ditto as for Simon and Piggy. Based on the first scene of the book.

Disclaimer: No, I really don't own LotF. I just own this cheesy paperback copy that is about to rip in half from use.

"The Sound of the Shell"

When Ralph first put the conch against his lips,

The children ran to greet him right away.

They saw the shining conch that's in his grip.

But then they're blinded by the light of day.

They all sit down and on the platform wait.

They hold for Ralph to tell them what to do.

But Ralph can only think about his fate,

And stare into the sky that's bright, so blue.

But then they hear a distant singing sound.

And in the distance marching boys come near.

The beating of their feet upon the ground

Begins to make the others start to fear.

The choir approached with their own leader, Jack.

They wore thick robes that were the deepest black.

A boy named Simon soon began to faint.

The robes had made him hot and so he fell.

The readers soon will learn that he's a saint.

As Ralph looked on he held the shining shell.

Then Ralph began to speak to all the boys.

They listened, careful not to miss a word.

The little ones began to make some noise.

And as they cried they found their vision blurred.

Maurice, the clown, began to make them smile.

He acted like a monkey dancing 'round.

Distracting them from being on an isle.

So for a while the boys were saved from frowns.

Then Ralph declared a vote among the rest,

To choose a leader who would be the best.

As Jack began to speak about his skills,

The other boys began to roll their eyes.

"A C-sharp I can hit," he said with chill.

But Ralph just raised his eyes up to the skies,

And when the boys were asked to raise their hands,

The choir voted all for Jack alone.

To vote for Ralph the other boys had planned.

The outcome of the vote made poor Jack groan.

Because of this the choir went to Jack,

For hunting for the pigs to get some meat.

But hunting gave poor Ralph a heart attack,

So he did not approve of meat to eat.

The disagreement was the first of lots,

Between the biguns who would call the shots.
