Chapter One
"I don't need you." Natsume Hyuuga arrogantly told the man seated on the other end of the long table. He noticed the man quivered, he smirked. "I don't need to negotiate with you"
Natsume was known to be ruthless when it came to any business dealings. He was not a man to be played and dallied with, he was man of conviction and his words were the verdict for the success of your business.
At the age of thirty, Natsume knew that in his world everything that he wants, he could simply get with the snap of his fingers. And if anything was to try and stop him, he knew too that it could easily be solved by eliminating the problem.
Hyuuga Enterprise was one the world's top leading enterprise. It might have started out from a failing family owned company that Natsume acquired when he was twenty one, but now the company is known as a shark, it is seen as a threat to any company because of its power to acquire and take over.
"Hyuuga Enterprise does not make deals or compromises for anyone." Natsume continued with conviction as he stared pointedly over the other man. "I don't have the resources or time for your dealings. I could easily solve my problem without your help. You see here, I don't need missteps, you should have just agreed to my terms; the first time I've laid them out."
The other man nodded as a sign of defeat. He sat uneased as he felt drops of sweat falling on the side of his face. He knew that he had lost this battle.
"Now…" Natsume paused as he stood from his seat and then he walked confidently towards the conference room's exit door. "You'll have front row seats to watch your company slowly and inevitably sell out stocks. Eventually, be completely owned by my company."
"Buy out their stocks! I want his company to be an example of how I deal with pests." Natsume barked the order over the phone. "I want it known that I don't just issue threats but I affirmed by them."
He replaced the phone on his table. He didn't need this kind of slip-up right now; he knew he should be focusing his attentions towards more important matters such as his sister's wedding. But it was just like second nature for him to deal with his company's daily missteps.
He didn't get where he was now without him being involved in any minor misgives. He actually can confess that he liked the problems, because he knew he could easily solve them. But right now, he needed to be less involved. Well, just until he marries his sister off.
The phone rang again.
"Hyuuga." He answered.
"Your sister's fiancée has a daughter." A female voice told him over the phone's receiver and then line went silent.
He stared at the phone for a couple of seconds before he reacted. He dialed his secretary's extension.
"A call passed through and it was anonymous." He stated angrily. "How the hell did that happen? Isn't my line secure?"
"I have no idea. In the first place, it should have been first picked up by my phone. Only existing numbers with confirmation from you; are able to automatically connect to your phone." His secretary explained.
Natsume was a rational man; he knew sometimes some people still can hacked through any security details with the right kind of equipment. But he was still pissed.
"Tell, security to deal with this problem. I don't want it from ever happening again." He growled. "And I want a thorough investigation run on Ruka Nogi."
"Your sister's fiancée?" His secretary confusedly asked.
"Yes!" Then he slammed the phone, his striking face taut, and lips compressed
He shrugged out his leather chair and moved towards the floor to ceiling windows that captured the entire cityscape. The view was indifferent to him.
He needed to get to the bottom of this situation. He doesn't like feeling out of control.
The last time he felt this way, was when he found out that his parents were dead. It was a tragedy, the family was out on a Sunday drive when a truck had hit the front end of their car; Natsume and Aoi survive the accident but sadly their parents did not. They were orphaned at the respective ages of 18 and 15.
He promised himself that was the last time that he would feel helpless with not much control on anything.
So, he became ruthless, demanding when it came to everything. He needed to find his solace to control this situation. He needed a plan.
Aoi was his family. And he needed to protect his family.
"Child, I think we need to give up." Nonno Sakura, Mikan Sakura's grandfather sadly stated. "The flower shop is just not earning enough for the keep. We have to pay for our debts."
Mikan stayed quiet. She was unsure how to to reply to her grandfather.
"Mikan, we have to sell the shop." Nonno continued. "It's the only way."
Mikan sighed behind the flower shop's counter. Her grandfather was right; selling the shop was the only way to earn enough money to actually pay their debts. The bank was cashing in their loan. Ironically, the money that was supposed to save the shop was now the reason for the shop inevitable foreclosure.
The shop was their family business. And Mikan will stop at nothing to save it.
She looked at her grandfather. He looked frail. He was seated over the small couch over the flower shop's center. She couldn't burden him anymore with the flower shop's problems. She knew that but sometimes her grandfather was the one who wanted to know them, and she can't lie.
One quirk she had was that she was honest. She hated this characteristic, because sometimes she needed to lie but her face was like an open book and she just ends up telling the truth by the end.
"We can't just close the family's shop, grandpa." Mikan explained. "It's where my memory of dad and mom are, this is where I've grown up."
"Mikan- "
"No, I won't give up. I'll find a way." She told her grandfather confidently.
"I understand, Mikan."
"I mean, I know we can think of something that might help the shop." She explained.
A long quiet paused stayed with them. They were both in a trance; both thinking of ways how to save the shop.
"Maybe we can host a sale?" Mikan asked. "Kind of like a dozen of roses plus free three more roses, something along those lines."
"We can't. We don't have enough funds for it." Her grandfather sadly retorted.
"We can't just give up. Not when we already risked a lot to save the shop." She exclaimed.
Another paused. But before anyone could utter a word, the phone rung.
She answered the phone vibrantly right away. A lady was on the other line.
"This is Yura Otonashi of Hyuuga Enterprises. I'm calling to inform you that Hyuuga Enterprises would like to meet you for a possibility of availing you as a caterer for an event."
Her grandfather watched as Mikan's brown hazel eyes turned dolled up, as she agreed with the customer on the line. Mikan exchanged details on other line. Then the line was cut short but Nonno knew something good just happened, from the way Mikan ended the call.
"Grandpa, I think we won't have to worry anymore."
"Why, child?"
A quick paused settled in before Mikan spoke again.
"The lady on the other line, wanted to meet up with me for a meeting. They need a flower shop to cater for an event. I might just up for the running, but I would still have to compete with several other shops." She excitedly told her grandfather. "I just need to impress them tomorrow. This is our chance."
Her grandfather only smiled. He didn't want to darken up his granddaughter mood. He kept it to himself how he knew this plan had a higher percentage of failing rather than actually being a success. She listened as Mikan blabber on about her plan and continued sighing.
"Wait!" Mikan shouted surprised. "How did they get the flower shop's number anyway? I mean, we're just a family run business."
"Maybe it's fate working, child." Her grandfather tried to enlighten. "The universe has a miraculous way of showing it knows that sometimes we need a little push and shove of help."
"I think, you might just be right, grandpa." Mikan agreed as she giggled.
Mikan's life has been full of ups and downs. At twenty five, she was not surprised by unnatural events, this was just her life. Her life was sometimes made of rainbows and everything good and sometimes it was made of thunderstorms and everything bad.
