It was a hot, humid day in Toccoa Georgia. I was walking down the path trying to find the barracks I would be living in for the next couple of months. I just got out of a meeting with Colonel Sink who went into full detail about how happy he was that I took his offer. He and his superiors wanted to find a female who had medical experience to be a medic for the 101st airborne division, and he thought I was their perfect candidate. At first, I refused, but after some convincing from the nurses, doctors, and surgeons from the English hospital I was working at, I decided to accept, and now I'm trying to find Easy barracks.
As I walked, I felt the stares of the men, but I ignored them and didn't let it faze me. I didn't need to care about what these men thought of me, I only had to worry about the Easy men. I had already met three of the Lieutenant of Easy. First Lieutenant Soble who looked liked he wanted me as far away from him as possible but new he was under orders to train me and could only kick me out if I failed basic training. Soble, only words to me, were to find the men barracks. Second Lieutenant Nixon was charming with his short dark hair and flirted with me as soon as Sobel stormed off but was quickly slapped in the head by the redhead Second Lieutenant Winters who was kind and gave me a warm smile. The two Second Lieutenants gave me hope that Easy would accept me.
I am 18 years old who has light blond hair and dark kelp green eyes. I worked in a field hospital in London for 2 years and was 16 when I got a job overseas as a nurse. I lied about my age to escape my life. I've had a rough childhood. I watched my beautiful mom die in a car crash when I was 10 and then spent the next 6 years of my life dealing with my abusive father and brother. My father did many things like whipping me and putting cigarettes out on my skin, but that's nothing compared to my brother who is 4 years older than me molesting me. My breaking point was just after I turned 16. I was raped walking home from school. The next day I walked to the dried up creek and slit my wrists however a boy from my school who had just graduated found me and took me to his house. He patched me up and helped me forge and find a job working as a nurse in London.
I devote the next two years trying to be the best nurse I could be. I sacrificed all of myself to save everyone I could, and it paid off because of now I am a Private. I try not to think about my past and bury everything that has happened to me which I successfully do. Everybody I meet always says I'm the beautiful, kindest, funniest, fierce woman they have met which I don't believe for a second. I am just Rachel Tulip Anderson, a girl who is just trying to live in the present and not in the past.
I finally found Easy barracks, and I took a deep breath and walked in.
