"But where is he now?"

"Up in the hospital wing, but-"

She didn't have chance to finish her sentence, he was already gone, a tall blur of flowing, midnight black hair and chiselled good looks that could render a girl breathless, or a boy for that matter, at fifty paces. Dashing down the wide corridor, the boy didn't seem to notice as he sent a cluster of timid first years flying. Up huge, sweeping flights of stairs, down narrow, twisting passageways, he took the quickest route, but even that seemed to take too long. Finally, he skidded to an abrupt halt outside a foreboding white door, and, throwing it open, he hurled himself into Hogwarts' hospital wing.

He glanced around the large room wildly, until his eyes finally found what they were looking for.

"Moony!"

Oblivious to the protests of a robust woman, roused by the commotion he had managed to create and now marching out of the office, he practically threw himself across the clean, squeaky floor towards the bed where his best friend now lay.

"Sirius Black, you are disturbing my patients!"

As the woman barked her words out, the young boy turned around to face her. She could see, as clear as day, there were tears in his eyes. He didn't even attempt to hide them. For a boy usually so rowdy, so proud and attention-seeking; the pleading look on his face shouted far louder than he'd ever done in a crowded corridor. The expression on the matron's face, and she retreated to her office. Sirius watched this thankfully; then turned his attention back to the immobile body lying on the stiff, hospital bed in front of him. A single tear rolled down his face;

"Moony, my Moony… What have I done to you?"
