Note: This is in response to flutter of angel wings' Different Pairing Challenge. I was supposed to pair Remus with Regulus, and hopefully it didn't turn out too bad. I actually quite like this pairing, so I may end up writing more stories about them. Enjoy!

Regulus Black was used to never being the best at anything. Sirius was always more handsome, more popular, more athletic, more everything. He was the rebellious child, and for some reason, people found that attractive; girls and guys alike. Sirius knew it too, and he loved to mess with Regulus about it. Every time Regulus liked someone, Sirius would purposely flirt with them so that he could steal them away from his little brother. He tormented Regulus time after time by proving that the person he liked would always pick his older brother over him. Well Regulus was tired of it, and he was finally ready to do something about it, which was why he had asked one Remus Lupin on a date.
Sure, the other boy was attractive, intelligent, and funny, but what really attracted Regulus to Remus was that Sirius was in love with him. For all of Sirius' arrogance and confidence, the one person he wouldn't dare ask out was Remus. He was simply too afraid to get rejected by his best friend and the person he loved. So when Regulus asked him out, he knew that Sirius would lose his mind. He wouldn't flirt to steal Remus away though, because he was way too nervous. He would have to sit back and watch as Regulus finally turned the table on his brother. Sirius should learn that you can't always get what you want, especially if you never take the risk.
As Remus sat across from him in a booth at the Three Broomsticks, he was mesmerized by the other's eyes. Remus had chocolate brown eyes that shone brightly. He was smiling sheepishly and blushing lightly. He was very cute, Regulus mused. He grabbed Remus' hand in his own, and the Gryffindor grew silent with nerves. He had probably never been on a date before, although for the life of him, Regulus could not figure out why. Remus was a great catch. Sure, he wasn't overly confidant or outgoing, but Regulus preferred him that way. Remus' quiet nature allowed him to have an air of mystery that was incredibly appealing. He was easy to talk to and non-judgmental. Regulus had already known that.
He had figured it out during the summers that Remus had stayed at the house with Sirius. He was always kind to Regulus and invited him to join in whatever the two of them were doing. This always made Sirius seethe, which was what had given Regulus this brilliant idea in the first place. As they spoke quietly in their booth, Regulus started to realize why his brother liked the other boy so much. He leaned in slowly to capture Remus' lips in a kiss. The Gryffindor hesitated before returning the kiss gingerly. His lips were soft and tasted like chocolate. From across the Three Broomsticks, Regulus heard a glass being slammed on a table and someone storming outside. Regulus knew it was Sirius, and he smiled into the kiss. He had finally won- and in more ways than one.
