Johnny-Cake

Disclaimer: I don't own the Outsiders! :D

A/N: in this story, Johnny will survive the fire.

It all started with the jump-rope song my friends and I would chant as we jumped rope on the sidewalk.

Johnny-Cake, Johnny-Cake

Sad young man

Got a dad and mum who loves no one

Johnny-Cake, Johnny-Cake

Sad young man

They don't care what he does even if he don't come back!

That was in second grade, when we didn't have such a big vocabulary, so it came out souding harsh.

Ten Years Later...

Now, I couldn't stop thinking about him. My hands absent-mindedly brush through my ash-blonde hair as I lay on my bed. I am 16 now and realize the pain he's going through. I finally figured out what the words in the song meant. Becca keeps teasing me about it, saying I'm in love. I told her that that word isn't even in my vocabulary. I call it...sympathy. I feel bad for him. Of course I do, I mean, who doesn't? I guess I'm the only one who actually felt for him.

A/N: I love you all and remember, this is only the preveiw! Review please!
