Hello anyone who is reading this. As you can see, I am very new and this is my first story, so I'm sorry if there is any mistakes, etc. Please review (constructive criticism is welcome) and enjoy!
A bell rings out loud and clear through the bustling halls of Gotham University. A young girl bumps into Dick, causing him to drop his books. "Oh sorry!" she exclaims, bending down to pick up the books. This moment gives Dick time to really see what this girl looked like. She had long dark hair and a tall, slender body. She had a spark of wisdom in her clear blue eyes, and she mostly wore dark clothing. There was something quite familiar about her, as if Dick had seen her somewhere before. And then it struck him. "Clara?" he asked. "Is that you?" "Dick!" she cried hopping up to hug him. But then, anger spread across her face and she slapped him. "I deserved that," Dick muttered, rubbing his sore cheek. "How?" she cried, tears streaming down her face. "How could you do that to me? Just off and left, deciding that I would rot in the circus without you. I cried for weeks because I thought you were dead with the rest of your family." She shoves the textbooks at him. "Here's your books back," she said with disgust. She then turned on her heel and walked down the opposite way of the hallway. "Clara, wait!" Dick pleaded, but she turned the corner and didn't look back.
A glop of chicken surprise lands on Clara's lunch plate. She shudders, noticing the green chunks of something floating around in it. She grabs a cookie before walking out of line towards her table. A couple of seconds later, Dick emerges from the line, heading towards Clara's table. But then something stops him short. A wave, sort of a surge of power rolls off of Clara. It had something to do with sadness, death maybe? Well anyways, it gave Dick an idea. He scanned the room, his eyes searching vigorously for Artemis. Finally, he spotted her standing in the lunch line, waiting for her food. He quickly walked over to her, grabbed and dragged her into a corner of the cafeteria. "Look, Artemis, we haven't much time," Dick said. "Dick?" she asked. "Dick Grayson? How do you know my name?" Dick then looked her straight in the eyes and said in a tone dead serious, "Because I am Night Wing." Artemis burst out laughing. "Yeah, right," she chuckled. "Please Artemis," he begged. "Ask me something, anything." "Fine," she sighed. "What were the names of the androids that attacked the Cave?" "Red Torpedo and Red Inferno," he answered without hesitation. "What? How did you…" she said breathlessly. "See, it's me," Dick said. "And I finally made Artemis speechless," he mused. "Shut up," she muttered, whacking him on the arm.
They walked over to Clara's table and sat down, their lunch trays clattering on the tabletop. "Who's the girl?" Clara asked. "I'm the girl," Artemis said bluntly. "Clara, this is Artemis," Dick said, trying to ease the tension. "She's new," Clara commented rudely. "I came here because my boyfriend…left," Artemis said, tears pricking her eyes. "I'm so sorry," Clara said with sympathy. "Why?" Artemis asked, quite confused. "Because he's dead," Clara said matter-of-factly. Suddenly, realization struck her. "Oh, stupid, stupid," she said, face palming herself. "How did you… know he was dead?" Dick asked, intrigued. This was the wave rolling off of her that he had felt before! Clara searched their eyes for trust. "Fine. I might as well tell you," she sighed. She leaned across the table, looking around cautiously so that no one else would learn her secret. "I can… I can see spirits and… sometimes… bring them back to life," she whispered. Artemis spit out the juice that she was just slurping. "You can bring Wally back?! You can bring my Wally back?" she shouted with joy. "Quiet down," Dick hissed. "Well, can you?" Artemis pressed. "I… um…" Clara stuttered. Ding! Ding! Ding! Saved by the bell! Clara thought. "Uh, sorry guys, I gotta go," Clara said quickly. She picked up her bag and got ready to leave. "Front of school, after school," Artemis told her.
Clara walks down the concrete steps of the university. "Sorry I'm late," she apologizes to Artemis and Dick. "That's alright- " Dick starts to say, but he is cut off by Artemis. "C'mon, c'mon," she says, grabbing Clara's arm and pulling her towards the telephone booth where the zeta tubes were located. "Hey guys? This says 'OUT OF ORDER'. Are you sure we should be going in there?" Clara questioned worriedly. "Don't worry, we know what we're doing," Artemis told her. They filed into the abandoned telephone booth. A large grey ball pulled down from the ceiling. "Override Tigress B07," Artemis said. The ball said, "Recognized: Tigress B07, Night Wing B01, Guest- Clara," as it let out a yellow ray that scanned them and transported them into Mt. Justice. They arrive to the waiting team. "Wow, this club's pretty big," Clara said, which earned her a look from Zatanna. "I'm going to need to concentrate," she said, ignoring Zatanna. She sat down cross-legged and closed her eyes. Barely moments later, they snap open and a look of awe spreads across her face. "Wally West, he isn't dead!" she exclaimed. "WHAT!?" yelled Artemis. "It's true. He didn't die, he just got transported to another dimension!" Clara said. "Can you still bring him back?" Artemis asked. "I've never tried it before, but I think so." "I don't want you to do this if you're going to get hurt," Night Wing said, grabbing her arm. "I'll be fine," Clara grumbled, shaking his hand off. She again sat cross-legged on the ground and closed her eyes. Suddenly, they fly open, shining a bright yellow. She shoots into the air, her hair floating around her head. A large, black hole opens up in front of her, and a tearing sound fills the room. A shimmering form appears in front of the wormhole. It takes density, shape and colour to reveal…
Sorry, I just love cliff hangers. Please review!
