A Second Glance

It was a myth that a zing required eye contact, or that you could only ever have one. If you lived long enough, like a vampire for instance, then it was more likely that you could have a second zing if your first one had passed on.

Dracula knew both these things, for he had found his second zing... And he couldn't even see him. Griffin says his eyes weren't much to see anyway, but it didn't stop Dracula from wanting to be able to make eye contact, just once.

He was thankful that Griffin had long ago mastered the art of making his glasses visible. Though his clothes all eventually turned permanently invisible just due to their constant proximity to his body.

"-This will be a good spot for the elephant." Griffins voice suddenly faded through into Dracula's musings.

"What, elephant? What are you talking about?"

"There you are! You zoned out, like a paragraph ago. I told you that we should start a zoo, just to see if you were paying attention. You've already agreed that the main hall chandelier would be a great place to house tigers, and that the front desk was an ideal habitat for emus."

That was a concern, how had he managed to tune out so badly? If he told the truth about what he'd been thinking, Griffin could feel uncomfortable about how much his invisibility sometimes bothered him. Dracula resolved to tell a half-truth, by talking instead about something else that had been weighing on his mind.

"I am sorry Griffin, I guess I am just distracted. Mavis is off exploring, and I know she's fine... She checks in every day, I guess I just miss having her here." Dracula sighed, "What were we talking about before I zoned out?"
"Well, I was giving you my 'undercover'-as it were- report on how the humans were taking to the hotels' accommodations."

"Ah, yes I remember. The 'growing pains' as you so eloquently put it." Dracula said smiling, "I believe you mentioned something about the kitchen service?"

"They would like it if the tasting menu wasn't so...bitey." Griffin agreed, "Well, it's less about that specifically... Let's just say; a typical monster diet, does not a human cuisine make." Griffins glasses shook, "maybe we should think about some human friendly options?"

"I want an authentic 'Hotel Transylvania' experience," Dracula sighed, "plus you're... Human-ish; you still eat here." Even after all this time, and even with learning that humans had changed over the last 118 years... Dracula could never really admit that his love was entirely human.

"I've had a few years to build up a tolerance to things my human sensibilities still have me question like, every time I eat them." Griffin turned and walked to the kitchen, "Follow me, I'll point out some possible menu change- well, not changes- additions."

Dracula would follow Griffin anywhere, and that was infinitely more true when applied to a location within the confines of the hotel. "Very well, let us fix the menu. It is about time to mix up a few things."
