This takes place in book two, right after the Flock has run from Anne's farmhouse. You know, right after Iggy comes back and they all fly away, Fang fights Ari,they fly with the hawks, then find a cave to sleep in.
Slightly MxM since I imply Gazzy has a crush on Iggy. It doesn't go much further than that.
My Worst Nightmare
Gazzy woke up sweating. He looked around the cave they were sleeping in, and took in the sight of his Flock. Angel and Total were curled up together, and Nudge, Max, and Fang were all sleeping semi-close together. Iggy and Gazzy were further off from the others, and Gazzy turned to look at Iggy now.
He'd had a nightmare.
A nightmare that Iggy had left.
Something he'd once considered far fetched.
Something that apparently, wasn't so far fetched after all. It was only earlier that day, that Iggy had returned to them, after going to live with his parents. Every day without him had been a physical pain for the young boy, and he'd thought there would never come a day when he would smile again.
Iggy was his other half, his best friend, his brother. And maybe, if Gazzy was honest with himself, he thought Iggy was really cute. Maybe he even had a small crush on the older boy.
Well, whether he liked him as a brother, or something more, he knew for sure he'd never leave Iggy. But Iggy...Iggy had left him...
Gazzy silently walked over to Iggy, and while it didn't wake any of the others, it did wake Iggy, who had exceptional hearing. He blinked, and listened, trying to identify Gazzy's footsteps.
"Gazzy?" he whispered, and without warning, Gazzy found himself sniffling, fighting away tears he didn't know he was crying. He lay down next to Iggy, and cuddled into him, grabbing his shirt and softly crying into it.
"What's wrong?" Iggy whispered, gently petting his back. Iggy's large, beautiful wings curled around them, like a barrier, making Gazzy feel safe.
"I had a bad dream." Gazzy whimpered. Iggy whispered to him softly, trying to calm him down.
"Do you want to talk about it?" he offered, and Gazzy looked up into Iggy's face. He'd been in danger of never seeing this face again. Just the thought alone caused the eight year old to cry harder, and Iggy wrapped his arms around the little boy, trying to comfort him.
"Please don't leave me again." Gazzy pleaded, and Iggy tensed up, suddenly racked with guilt as he became aware that he was the cause of Gazzy's distress. He held the boy closer, and whispered into his ear.
"I won't Gazzy. I'll never leave you again."
"Pro-promise?" Gazzy asked, with a little hiccup interrupting him. Iggy gently stroked Gazzy's hair, and smiled, suddenly not knowing how he could have ever left to begin with.
"I promise."
They fell asleep, their wings curled around them, and they curled up in each other's arms.
There, just a little oneshot. And look at that, the whole rest of the flock did appear, but they were asleep. Oh well. That's probably all I'll do for Maximum Ride fanfiction, unless the inspiration strikes again.
