This is a month or so old. Got bored, ran away from the dentist, and wondered how the hell manga characters manage to have white teeth when all they eat is candy.

Disclaimer - I don't own Death Note, but if I did, I'd've changed parts.

"Holy !#%"

Mello glared up at the masked man. If glares could speak, this one would have said, 'What the hell do you mean, 'Holy !#%?''

The man pulled a circular mirror on a stick out of his mouth. "Sorry. What I meant to say was; why the heck do you have brown cavities on all of your teeth?!"

It was hard to speak with his mouth wedged open, but he managed. Sort of. "Te no' ca'i'ies. Hoco-ah."

"Come again?"

"HOCO-AH!"

The dentist blinked. "Chocolate?"

Mello's young face was flushed as he nodded.

"Are you serious?! Is that all you eat?"

"Uh-huh."

"Kids. They never get it," the dentist muttered, trading the mirror for a pick. Mello eyed it warily, more so when a pair of assistants came over and stood by his side. "Cavities, as you should know, are caused by sugar, among other things," the man droned, diving back into his mouth with the pick in hand. "Chocolate has a ton of bloody sugar – as I'm sure you've found out."

Mello wanted to hit the man – which was probably why the assistants were looking ready to grab his arms. For every tooth the dentist touched, his nerves screamed murder, and he was only probing gently.

What felt like an age later, the pick left his mouth. His relief was short lived, however, as the dentist brought a needle towards him.

"Nuh-uh." He tried to get up, but the assistants held him still.

"You need a cleaning," the dentist said firmly, injecting his gums with the solution. "Badly. Though at this point, it may be useless. The anaesthetic is so you don't feel anything – though when we start on the fillings, I'll probably have to knock you out."

Mello didn't like the sound of that.

He like the cleaning even less.

And the fillings? Well, it was a good thing the assistants were there, because otherwise, the world would have been short one dentist.
