Happy Beginnings
It was rather easy when one thought of it. One can settle down, have as many children as one wants, and as long as they didn't end up male, then the curse couldn't carry on down the line, since it only went to sons. Presumably.
Miroku had been ecstatic when he had found out that his wife, the woman he loved so dearly, had bore him a daughter instead of a son. He had been hoping for so long for a son to carry on just in case the fight with Naraku was to continue, and females were usually not taught to fight in this age.
He had never imagined that the one he would marry, the one he had given his heart to, would be one to help him kill Naraku, to deal one wound after another on the evil hanyou until the bastard was no more.
With the kazaana now gone from his body, he had been able to have as many children as he wanted without worrying overly much about any of them seeing their father being sucked up into his own hand. And when he would have delighted in having a boy to hold, he found that the only children he seemed capable of fathering were girls.
And now here the two of them were again, one holding onto a sweaty hand, while the other pushed and shouted out obscenities involving cutting off certain appendages he would rather keep. Kaede was in front of them, helping along the birth of what he was willing to bet would be their eighth daughter.
So, he was plenty surprised that with an ear splitting screech, followed soon after by the hearty cries of a newborn, he was greeted with a sight he had been looking forward to for quite some time.
"Congratulations you two, it's a boy," Kaede said. If anyone was listening even harder, they may have heard the 'finally' that escaped the old woman's lips next. With one child a year (two the first time round which had been rather unexpected) the old Miko hadn't aged all that much. Thankfully.
"A son! My love, a son!"
And with a quiet smile of one that had to do a lot of strenuous hard work over a long period of time, Kagome closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Maybe now she could get Miroku to ease off a bit.
