Prologue
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, or any of its characters. One day I shall change my name to Rumiko Takahashi and force Sesshoumaru and Kagome together in the series!
Summary: My version of what might've happened if Kagome didn't fall down the well, and certain demons (Namely Sesshoumaru) from the feudal era were still alive in modern Japan. The shikon would also still be whole inside Kagome, since she was the one who carried and shattered it, as well as the one who released Inuyasha.
It's my 15th birthday today, you know. I don't feel any different so far. Another day of school and listening to Grandpa's mad ravings about demons and other ridiculous fairy tales. Because that's all they were, really.
"Kagome!"
I turned around to find my little brother, Souta, running towards me with a stricken look upon his face. "What is it?"
"It's Buyou!" He whined, grabbing onto my arm. "He's down in the well house, and I can't get him to come out!"
I sighed, and started walking to the little building on the side of our shrine. "Come on Souta, let's go see."
Together, we stopped in front of the old well house, and stared at the door. A soft mew suddenly came from inside.
"Well, looks like he's still in there," I intoned dryly. "Let's go see what he's up to." Quickly sliding the door open, I stepped into the dark and musty building.
The culprit stood right at the edge of the bone eater's well, gazing back at us with lucid yellow eyes. He mewed again, in seemingly inoocence before looking down in the well.
Souta shivered, and looked up at me. "It's creepy in here, Kagome. Let's hurry up and get Buyou so we can leave."
I raised my eyebrow at him, as the corner of my mouth quirked. "Scared, Souta?"
"Of course not!" He glowered at me, and crossed his arms. His shaking shoulders betrayed his tough front, however, and I giggled.
"Alright, let's go retrieve the runaway kitty." Switching my atttention back to Buyou, I slowly stepped forward to the well, with my hands outstretched. "Come on, you fat cat. Let's go back to the shrine."
Buyou seemed to consider my offer, but decided in the end that he'd rather explore the old well. For what reasons, I'll never know.
"Buyou! Come here," I crooned, stepping closer to him, my hands still outstretched.
He mewed again, and was about to jump into the well, when I quickly snatched him into my arms.
"Gotcha!"
Souta sighed in relief behind me. "That was close. We might've had to end up going into the well after him! Ugh."
I smirked, and stepped out of the well house, still hugging the large cat to my body. "He's just a little trouble-maker. Aren't you?"
Souta and I walked back to the shrine together, where I deposited Buyou at the top of the steps. "There you go. Now no more adventures to the well house, got it?"
Nodding my head in satisfaction, I took quick glance at my watch, and gasped. "Oh no! I'm going to be late!"
"What time is it?" My brother asked me, hiking up his backpack.
"Almost 8 o'clock! See you later, Souta." I fled down the steps again, and out of the driveway. Panting slightly from the sudden burst of expended energy, I jogged lightly down the sidewalk. Coming late on the first day of school was not a good way to make an impression!
As I reached the school grounds, a flare of pain suddenly sparked from the left side of my hip. Yelping in surprise, I rubbed the side of my skirt gingerly as it died down. The bone-eater's well glowed.
A/N: It's short I know, but I just wanted to play around with the idea a bit. Not sure if I want to continue it...I really want to wait for the other computer to be fixed so I can finish the second chapter of Summer Opportunities, and start continuing School Fair.
Anyways, R&R! I welcome ideas as well. :3
