Beach City was tranquil. Its streets undisturbed as people slept peacefully in their beds. The whole town was quiet, apart from one small gem who stood silently facing the sea.
Amethyst watched the waves with a furrowed brow. Usually the calming sounds of the water was enough for her, to be here on a beach which basked in the moons silver glow, surrounded by the star lit sky and nothing else. Not tonight, she thought as the waves lapped at her feet causing a shiver to run through her skin.
A sigh escaped the lavender gem's plump lips as she lowered herself down onto the sand and placed her head into her hands. Today had been exhausting. Then again, so had yesterday.
A bitter laugh rumbled through Amethyst's body. If she was going to be honest with herself, everyday had been like this. Everyday she had felt these emotions that crashed into her from every which way and drained her completely.
Thick, hot tears dripped onto the golden sand beneath her. The tranquil beach was soon filled with heavy sobs from the small gem, her hands shaking as she curled into herself. She hated this. This feeling of not being good enough, of not being wanted.
Amethyst had made a habit of picking out everything she did wrong. Even if it was the smallest thing like putting something in the wrong place, her mind would subconsciously tell her that it was another failure; that she'd done something wrong again.
She did this everyday, about most things and it soon caught up with her. Amethyst developed headaches from staying up at night crying into her pillow. She began to act slower due to her tired state, only to do more things wrong because of it.
It was exhausting really, but she didn't stop. Why should she? No one had noticed the change in her posture, the bags under her eyes, the lack of energy in her voice anyway and it's not like she didn't deserve to feel like this, after all, she was just a mistake.
Amethyst lifted her head, took a deep breath and dried her tear stained face with the base of her top. Her body still trembled as she pushed herself off of the wet sand and into a standing position. Taking one last glance at the moonlit sea she started her walk back to the temple.
