Hermione woke up with a start. She was having the dream again, where she sees the car slamming into the wall. She got out of bed and went to brush her teeth. The swish of the brush comforted her. As she ran downstairs, she saw her mother preparing for work. "Hello dear," her mother said, "How did you sleep?"

"Pretty good," Hermione responded. All of a sudden, Hermione looked at the clock and realized she was about to be late! She grabbed a piece of toast and was on her way.

Kids sucked, Hermione thought. She tried to be nice, she really did. But everyone else was just so horrid! Slapping her books out of her hands, pulling on her hair, calling her names. She almost couldn't decide if it was the boys or girls that were worse. The boys were more physical, grabbing at her. It was painful. But the girls were insidious. They spread rumors and excluded her from everything. She felt completely alone. She would curl into herself, trying to hide away from the stares and whispers.

Her teachers pitied her. They let her stay in the classroom during lunch, with only a soft tut. The librarian would give her book recommendations. When the bell rang, it freed her from the misery of school and she ran home before the other kids could catch up to her. Sometimes she wasn't fast enough, and she had the bruises to show for it.

When she got home, her mother was there waiting. Hermione ran towards her and gave a big hug. "How was school?" her mother asked. Hermione sighed. "It's the same as it's always been. Why can't I just be homeschooled?" Her mother looked down at her. "We've gone over this a lot. I really don't have any time. I have to work hard to support you." Hermione glared. She understood it, but that didn't mean she had to like it. Her mom just didn't understand.

A/N: And that's the first chapter! Thanks for reading
