I Missed You
So. I've been binge-watching Glee for the past three days and I really, really love Kurt and Blaine. I watched the second part of the Hurt Locker episode approximately half an hour ago and I thought, 'Well, I have to write about this!' So here I am. This is going to be entirely in Kurt's perspective, because I was obsessed with his conversation with Brittany.
Dave. The name stings Kurt's tongue, a toxin invading his mind. It's all he can think about right now and he wonders if it's the same case for Blaine, who's still banging on the door, begging for their pleas to be heard.
Kurt sits uselessly against the wall, dead phone in hand, eyeing his ex-boyfriend helplessly.
Dave.
When the panel opens in the wall, a rush floods his heart when Blaine jumps toward him in a feeble act to protect him from the Saw-like Sue that was emerging, finally settling on the wall beside them as they both desperately clutched the side railings.
Kiss Blaine. The command thuds in his head like an irritating headache, right along with that horrid name.
He can see the younger man is slightly disoriented as well, sneaking quick confused glances at him.
But Blaine responds quickly. "What? That's it? That's so easy!"
A wide-eyed Kurt replies in the same manner; "Okay, I'm about to kiss Blaine." He hates that his voice has a slight shake to it. After all, this is Blaine! He's kissed him hundreds of times.
The quick little fake press of lips leaves them both with a small red blush on their cheeks, but it's apparently not quite enough for Sue.
"No, not like that. I want to see you two really go at it!" Sue chants and Kurt almost picks it up and throws it at the elevator wall.
The two boys scrambling to pull up the secret panel in the wall is truly one of the most terrifying moments of Kurt's life, the feeling of being totally and completely trapped.
Blaine crouched beside him as he opens the basket, ready to pull him away if anything explodes out is the only thing keeping him calm at this point.
His presence, comforting and trying to keep Kurt safe as always steadies his breath easier.
The roast chicken as they discover leaning against the fake elevator wall, isn't actually that bad. They don't talk during the meal, just exchange fleeting glances when the other's not looking.
"It's getting really hot in here," Blaine pants as Kurt packs up the remaining chicken, "I don't think Sue was joking."
He strips off his jacket, tossing it on the floor and Kurt does his best to not listen to Blaine's little sigh of relief.
Kurt pulls off his own jacket, placing it gently on the floor beside Blaine's.
"It's designer!" he explains in response to the younger boy's amused look.
It isn't long before Kurt decides to take a nap, wrapping up his designer jacket and curling up on it.
"Wake me up if you get too lonely," he tells him with a smile.
"I'll make you aware if the Sue robot comes back," Blaine says softly, patting his hand.
Kurt buries his face deeper in the leather to hide his small smile.
He dreams of Dalton, of Blaine pressing his hand into his to drag him through the halls, of the choir room where Blaine leans his head gently on shoulder, of the loft where he falls asleep comforted by the warm arms of his boyfriend.
When he wakes up, Blaine is nodding off against the wall, knees tucked up to his chest.
Sighing, he taps his arm until he wakes up. "Blaine, that can't be comfortable," he chuckles, arranging both of their jackets into a pillow for him.
"I can stay awake," Blaine mutters sleepily.
Kurt snorts sitting back up against the wall. "Blaine, you've been coaching the Warblers for weeks. You're exhausted."
"Well, now that you mention it," he says and flops down on his makeshift pillow, drifting off to sleep almost immediately.
Kurt had forgotten the way he slept, his legs curled up tightly to him, hands buried beneath his cheek as if he was trying to make himself as small as possible.
It was as if he was trying to protect himself from whatever horror came to him as he lay encased in deep slumber. The nightmares that always had Kurt wrapping his arms around him whispering in his ear that everything was alright, everything was going to be okay.
Blaine woke up a little while later with that bright idea they play a game.
And they do, using the napkins Sue so graciously packed for them.
Blaine's propped up on his elbows, keeping his gaze rested on the other. Kurt lies on his back staring at the ceiling, knowing he's looking at him.
As much as he tries not to, Kurt loves playing the game, it reminds him of every moment they've shared, moments he still thinks about every day.
"The life you could've lived," Blaine says, and it's not hard to catch the chuckle in his voice. He's pretty adept at it.
"Oh, what would've been," Kurt replies, doing his best to put the same chuckle in his voice so Blaine will receive the message.
We're all right, we're okay.
Then Blaine has to go and bring up that name. Dave. The torment of his life, especially now. Kurt rolls away from him, effectively ending the game.
That name might be why robotic Sue decides to enter the little room once more.
The small panel opens in the wall again and Sue rolls right in.
They press themselves against the walls, the heat coursing through them so much they both remain sitting.
Sue's new plan to get them to kiss is ridiculous, so ridiculous that Kurt almost wants to go over and straddle Blaine's lap to kiss him.
The younger's proclamation that it doesn't have to mean anything surprises him but he turns to listen.
"Sue's making us," he shrugs. "It's our only chance to get out of here."
"Yeah," Kurt says, swallowing down the knot in his throat, "let's say right now that this doesn't mean anything."
The pair gets up and stands across from one another, still contemplating what they're about to do.
"Three," Kurt says shakily, glaring at Sue when she eagerly joins the counting, "Two, one."
Blaine's lips slide to meet his and his mind goes completely blank. He ignores Sue's triumphant yell and focuses on the kiss, on the way Blaine moves his hand up to cradle his cheek as he deepens it.
Kurt's arms instinctively curl around his back, holding him close like he used to. He puts everything he has into their kiss, trying to tell him every single thing he's too scared to say out loud.
I'm so sorry. I shouldn't but I still love you. Dave.
"Congratulations, Klaine," Sue's altered voice fills the room and the doors slide open.
Kurt and Blaine both scoop up their jackets and race towards the auditorium, Kurt's mind still reeling. He casts a look over at Blaine as they run, still thinking one thing.
I missed you.
Honestly, this slightly terrifying, hilarious and swoon-worthy scene is a godsend and I really enjoyed writing about it! I've never related to Sue Sylvester more.
