He didn't see it. He stared at himself in the mirror (Which he did often, anyway, so he would know if something had happened), tilting his face considerably. It didn't seem to be there. Perhaps it was in his eyes. He leaned closer to the mirror, squinting just a bit. One eyebrow rose above the other; it wasn't there, either. His mother claimed something false, and he knew it. Unless she had a valid reason, he was going to prove her wrong. And he could, because he looked at himself in the mirror every day. And today, he looked the same. He made all of his usual faces after thinking this through and, as before, he saw nothing different. Finally, he turned and walked out of the bathroom. He knew where she was. He would find her rather quickly.
"You were wrong, mom," he said confidently, his hands placed firmly on his hips.
"I am never wrong."
"And I never fail." She turned from her frogs and stared at him, her mouth opened a bit.
"You squeaked," she grumbled. He tilted his head.
"Squeaked?"
"There! Again! It's proof!"
"Mom, what are you talking about?" She lifted her palms and shook her head, looking at him as if he were insane.
"The proof of your puberty! You're squeaking!" He grabbed his throat as if poisoned. She smirked. "Ha! I was right!" He looked around nervously.
"I am not squeaking!" he said, and, sure enough, squeaked the last few syllables. He screamed.
"Admit it! You were wrong!"
"I will never adm— AHH!" He heard himself squeak again and looked defeated. She smiled, lifted an eyebrow, and crossed her arms. She didn't need to say anything; he knew what that look was. "… Alright, you win. You were right." Her smile grew as she gave him a pat on the head.
"Good boy. Now stop talking so I won't hear you growing up." He turned out of the practice room and heard her talking to her frogs. He walked back into the bathroom, looking at himself glumly in the mirror.
"I will never grow up…" he grumbled. "I won't stop being sexy!" He slowly imagined himself a few years older, a bit more aged and a bit more rugged. He smirked. "Actually… that probably wouldn't be so bad…"
