Kane watched the darkness, a mass of unmoving filth she absolutely hated. Hand on the smooth banister of the main stairway, walking down with short, careful steps, Kane made her way over to the corner of one of the playrooms.
Feeling her way around the room, she fingered so many familiar things: Countless puzzles and books, lined up neatly on shelves bordering every wall. Toys (mostly blocks and strategy games) and books littered the floor, left there by the careless kids who had played with them earlier that day.
Hesitating for a second, Kane made her way to the corner of the room and sat down on the familiar, worn down bench of the grand piano that had made its way there generations ago. It was a test; some banged on the keys and others gently tapped them. There were a select few able to play out of their souls, knowing somehow how to tap the keys right without thinking.
Kane fidgeted slightly, afraid to wake anyone with her noise. She'd awaken only minutes prior singing, her fingertips tapping her bed and her lips forming words of beauty unheard but only to her.
Somehow she had found herself wandering downstairs, unconscious as she took her seat and lifted the cover over the yellowed keys. One finger over a key, she tapped lightly. Magic again surged her fingers forward, forcing them over the keys in a soft, melodic tune. Somehow words formed themselves… She found herself singing in English, a tune so soft and so familiar…
Every night in my dreams I see you, I feel you… That is how I know you go on
Far across the distance, and spaces between us you have come to show you go on
She couldn't stop now, her whole mind was begging her to stop and go back to sleep, but somehow she was rooted to the spot.
Near, far, wherever you are, I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door and you're here in my heart, and my heart will go on and onLove can touch us one time and last for a lifetime… And never let go till were gone…
Unknown to her, Kane had indeed grabbed the attention of someone. L had been curled up in the corner of the same playroom, and was now listening intently to the music.
Love was when I loved you, one true time I hold to… In my life we'll always go on…
Near, far, wherever you are, I believe that the heart does go on…Once more you open the door and you're here in my heart… And my heart will go on and on
You're here, there's nothing I fear, and I know that my heart will go onWell stay forever this way, you are safe in my heart… and my heart will go on and on
"Bravo." Someone whispered, with a soft clap. Kane's eyes widened, and turning around slowly, she witnessed a horrible thing. Matt, Mello, L, Near, and Linda seemed to have been woken up by the music and were all leaning against the very back wall.
Kane's jaw dropped, tears gathered in the corners of her eyes, and she began to tremble. All of those people… they heard her! Kane's singing and piano-playing were something private, more of a diary than entertainment.
"I…. I'm sorry." She murmured, turning and standing from the piano bench, making her way the stairs so she could escape to her room. Turning back ans eeing so many eyes watching her, she murmured again, "Thank you."
