In a time of strife, peace has faded into a distant memory. War is on the horizon and it does not separate friend from foe. Racial tensions abound, the conflict between magical and the no-maj is increasing with each step the enemy takes. Trapped between two different wars, will peace ever come to the magical and muggle worlds or is all destined to be subdued in fire and brimstone?

Chapter Zero: The Past

Synopsis: In a time of strife and fear, the worlds of both muggle and magical are thrown into chaos on the heels of World War 1. A political muggle leader rises Europe and sweeps across the eastern countryside, yet behind this man that will become a mass murder, muggles or no-maj are unaware of the fact that a wizard is pulling the strings. As war sweeps across Europe, magical children continue to go to school while in Britain, muggle children and some magical children of the United Kingdom are sent out of the line of fire to the countryside. Meanwhile the world watches and waits, hoping for an end to the war that ravages Europe, coined by the ideals of two madmen.

Setting: This story takes place during the early years of World War Two and a year before, from September fifteenth, 1938 to December seventh 1941. The schools affected are Beauxbatons of France, Hogwarts of the United Kingdom, Ilvermorny of North America, Mahoutokoro of Japan, Koldovstoretz of Russia, and Durmstrang of Norway.

Author Note: These are the important characters of Broken Borders. My goal is to write a semi-historical fiction/fantasy story set during the years of the Great War during the time of Adolf Hitler and Gellert Grindelwald where I showcase historical events from muggle history in WW2 and magical history of the same time period. This novel is an attempt at showing this through the eyes of several schools involved in WW2 through the eyes of students and some professors as well as some muggles and squibs. This is the first story in a trilogy which will be picked up in Hunters of Mist (1941 to 1946) and Iron Curtain (the cold war/1947-1991).
