A/N:Hey y'all. Found the very first story I put up here. It's for my original TVD family.
All mistakes are my own. (They are littered with them, but I'm not changing it. I want to show how far i've come since my first tale.)
Full Summary:
Caroline Forbes is an optimistic woman. She is 25 years old, and has the job she's always wanted as an elementary school teacher. After being assaulted, and turned into a vampire over a year ago, Caroline figures that she may not be able to have the child she's always wanted, but she can at least help teach and nurture other young kids in a classroom. Klaus Mikaelson is the Hybrid King, and ruler of not only New Orleans, but the entire supernatural world. He is also now the current guardian of his oldest sibling's six year old son. When these two meet, will they be able to find what they've always been looking for in each other?
...
Warning: There is a brief description of an assault. If this will trigger anything I apologize, and it will be in bold lettering.
It was a cold sunny day in Louisiana. I could see the sun shining brightly from the windows of the elementary school I taught at daily. Normally, the winter wonderland paired with all the children vying for my attention would make me even more ecstatic, but after a sleepless night, one of many lately I was grateful, that the 15+ kindergartners were set to leave for the weekend in less than five minutes.
"Ms. Caroline!"
"Ms. Caroline!"
"Ms. Caroline! Why does Alex have a blue crayon in his nose!"
"Shut up Jessica! No I don't!"
"Ooh, Alex said a bad word!"
"Ms. Caroline I want hair like yours when I grow up. It's so shiny!"
"Uh, where did Daniel put my lizard?"
Yes, Daniel, where did you put that lizard?
I had to reign in my students before they all got out of hand.
"Okay kids! Everyone put on their jackets, and quietly sit until the bell rings. Alex, take the crayon out of your nose now, and do not tell Jessica to shut up. Apologize now."
Alex glared at the girl in question while slowly pulling the blue crayon out of his nose.
"Sorry Jessica."
"It's okay Alex. I forgive you."
Alex looked over at Jessica and smiled, who then returned his smile.
Oh, the joys of first love.
"Good, now go and wash your hands, and on the way back to your seat grab your jacket."
Sliding out of the chair, Alex went to the back of the room to wash his hands.
How did he get the crayon so far up his nose to begin with?
Shaking my head, I then turn my focus to the next question/problem.
"Thandie honey thank you so much, but I like your hair even more. Always be appreciative of what you have darling."
Thandie looked up at me from her stuffed teddy bear and practically beamed at the compliment.
"Thank you Ms. Caroline! Teddy says thank you too."
I watched as Thandie returned to quietly speaking with her stuffed animal.
Two down, one more to go.
"Josh?"
A tiny little boy, who looked genuinely confused as to where his pet lizard was, glanced at me questioningly.
"Huh?"
"Daniel put your lizard in the other aquarium by the door."
"Oh."
Taking a deep breath, I began to run through my final lesson of the day.
"Okay class, so I know that we are all excited for school to be over, but we still have one minute left-"
Ring! Ring!
Within seconds of the bell going off pure pandemonium seemed to take over the little children's body, vibrating with the excitement of having no school for the rest of the week.
"Bye Ms. Caroline!"
"See you Monday!"
And just like that, the storm was over.
...
After saying goodbye to my co-workers, and cleaning up the classroom, I grabbed my tote, (filled with random pieces of paper from the children) purse, and high-tailed it out of the school. Even I was excited for the weekend. After having a life that was constantly up and down, it was nice to have some boring predictability.
And if my psychic skills were correct, the buzzing from my purse is signaling my Friday night phone call from my best friend which was happening in 5,4,3,2,1-
"Hey Bonnie!"
"Care! How is everything since last week? How are the kids?"
Telling my week to Bonnie was very fun, because I was able to talk to her about the little children, and the trouble that always seemed to be following them. Bonnie knew, as well as I did, that these phone calls were more than just a friend talking about another friend's life; They were also therapy sessions that helped me get through all the bad luck that had followed me around up until two years ago.
"...A crayon? Really? That sounds like something Jer would've done back in the day."
Laughing, I agreed with Bonnie completely.
"But of course. All drug-dealers have a beginning."
Bonnie was laughing so loud on the other end that I had to hold the phone away from my ear.
But I couldn't stop the grin from overtaking my face.
"Ah Care, that's why I talk with you. Always keeping it real. So glad I ended it with the Gilberts, Elena included. But really, how are you doing?"
How was I doing? I understood that what happened with him wasn't my fault, but it was hard to heal when someone took something from you, and didn't have the decency to make it right.
"I am fine. It was a tough night but everyday is getting better."
It has to.
"Good. If you ever need anything at all you know where, and how to reach me."
"Bonnie I know. When are you going to come and visit me anyways? We could go out, shopping, whatever you want. I miss my best friend!"
I know she could hear the whine in my voice but I didn't care. Desperate times and all that. Giggling quietly, Bonnie sighed.
"Really Care? Guilt? But you know, I may take you up on that offer. Maybe within the next month."
Wait. What?!
"Really! That's all it took? If whining was to you was the solution, I would've started a year ago!"
"Oh-please, You've been whining since you moved from good ole' Virginia, and went down to the bayou. Besides I ignored you because you needed to be alone and be Caroline again. There now see? You're welcome."
I could just see Bonnie with her arms crossed and a smug grin on her face. Rolling my eyes, I started thinking that my asking her to come was almost too easy.
Wait a minute.
"But, wait a second that was a little too easy if you ask me. What is really going on?"
Silence.
"Bonnie?"
Shuffling, followed by deep breaths could be heard over the phone.
"You know, being a vampire and all, I can hear you breathing heavily."
"Shit, okay. And hey I'm a witch. Test me, and I'll give you a headache for days. But listen, what I am about to tell you took me by complete surprise, and in no way do I support, or condone this recent event."
What on earth could have possibly happened now?
"Okay now I'm nervous."
"Don't be. Your mother is great. She told me to tell you hi by the way, and to call soon. Stefan left about three years ago so there is really nothing to report on his front."
That is true. Last I heard, Stefan was quite happy with his new life.
"Okay. if Stefan, you, and my mom are okay, what could the problem be?"
Hearing her groan, I was more curious than anything else at this point.
"You know what I'm just going to say it. Elena is marrying Damon next month, and wants me to be a bridesmaid."
Gasping in shock, I couldn't stop my hands from shaking as I collapsed onto the floor by my couch.
"Bon, I have to go I'll call you back Sunday okay?"
"Care wait, don't hang up let me help-"
Pressing the end button on my phone I sat there, and stared at the wall near my kitchen, trying to shake off repressed memories from the past.
"Stop Damon! Stop! You're hurting me! I said no!"
All I could hear was the fabric tearing on my dress.
"Aw, are those tears Caroline? Do you think that's going to stop me?" Throwing me on the dingy, filthy mattress Damon proceeded to take off the rest of my tattered dress.
"No matter what Caroline, you will always remember my touch on you."
Snapping out of it I quickly got up, grabbed my keys, and headed out the door.
Looks like I was going out this evening after all.
