Disclaimer: Still don't own Harry Potter. Unfortunately.

Author's Note: This is written for the 'Plots and Pairings' thread on the M&MWP forum, where I got the prompt 'If only Padma could see Lavender wasn't as bad as...', and also written for 'The School Subjects Competition' on the HPFC forum, Herbology.

This takes place a couple of years after the Battle of Hogwarts, so the characters are about nineteen or so.

If only Padma and Lavender got along.

If that were true, then everything would be perfect in Parvati's world. Her sister and her best friend - her two favorite people - should have been able to tolerate being in the same room with one another. But no, every time they happened to be near one another the sarcastic remarks would begin. Parvati never knew who started it, but it seemed she was always forced to end it, and it annoyed her. Couldn't they get along, at least for her sake?

If only Padma could see Lavender wasn't as bad as she thought.

It was true that Lavender went through a lot of men very quickly, and slept with people a little too often. In Parvati's opinion, that wasn't any of Padma's business. It was also true that Lavender worked a menial job as a salesclerk in Flourish and Blotts because she thought the Ministry was boring. That wasn't any of Padma's business either. Those were Lavender's choices, not Padma's. But Padma chose to comment about these things constantly, saying that Lavender was way too easy and slutty for sleeping around, and way too lazy for not having a 'proper' job.

If only Lavender could see that Padma wasn't as bad as she thought.

Yes, Padma was mature and responsible - she never drank, never went out late, and never went to parties. Yes, Padma had a slightly annoying habit of correcting people on whatever she felt was wrong about them - their way of speaking, their posture, their behavior, whatever she felt the need to. But really, that was just how Padma was. She had always been that way, and Parvati knew she wasn't going to change anytime soon. But Lavender always felt the need to call Padma boring, stuck-up, and anal-retentive.

If only Padma and Lavender would put aside their differences.

Parvati loved both of them. Padma was her sister, and Lavender was her best friend, almost like an adopted sister. They were both very important to her, and she cared so much for both of them. She wished that the three of them could do things together, things like going shopping, or going out to a restaurant, or even just having a civil conversation, but that didn't seem like it was going to happen anytime soon. Padma and Lavender were just such different people.

If only they could see that they were hurting Parvati.

She hated that she was in the middle of them. They tried not to make her feel like she had to pick a side, but she often felt that way anyway. She didn't want to have to choose between them. She wanted both of them in her life, and she wanted them to get along.

If only they could understand that.

Wow, this was really interesting to write...I've never really wrote a piece like this before. Kind of short, but I think it works well that way. Haha, another piece from me posted in the middle of the night...big surprise there.

Anyway.

Thanks for reading, hope you liked it!
