Bedroom Talk

The sound of old pages curving and crinkling broke into the quiet melodies of the Caribbean night. A light wind caused the half-drawn curtains to sway, drawing a breeze through the spacious room.

James lay reclined in the large bed, propped up by several pillows. His fingers slowly traced down the page, slipping underneath and lifting, turning it.

A candle flickered on the bedside table, providing him just enough light to read by, while not disturbing his lover, who lay sleeping next to him.

He let his eyes drift from the words on the page to the man who lay next to him. He felt himself smile. Andrew always looked so peaceful while he slept. Hs lips were parted slightly, red hair let loose and trailing down the back of his neck and across his bare shoulder.

James turned his attention back to his book. A few more chapters, then he would join Andrew in sleep.

"Mmmm."

James laughed once, quietly. It wasn't uncommon to hear such noises with Andrew next to him. He turned the page more quietly.

"Mmmghh."

James unconsciously reached a hand down to run his fingers over the soft, fiery hair soothingly. The gestured seemed to work, as he heard Andrew's breathing slow, without appearing to awaken and he continued with his reading, thinking nothing of it.

Andrew made a small, cat-like mewing noise.

James looked over, again, wondering if the other man was dreaming. He saw his face twitch slightly. He silently pondered what was going through Andrew's head…

"No mummy! Please! Not the teddy bears!"

James raised an eyebrow, slowly, taken back at the sudden outburst. He set the book down in his lap and reached out to steady the sudden twisting and fighting with the sheets.

At the gentle, reassuring touch of his lover's hands against his bare skin, Andrew began to relax. His eyelids flickered. He raised his head slightly.

"Mm, James?" He asked, blinking slowly, seeing him looking down at him. His eyes fell on to the book in James's lap. "Still reading? Put the book down and go to sleep, it's late." He told him groggily and shifted closer, cuddling close to James's body, falling back asleep instantly.

James stared at him. He slowly moved his gaze back to the book. He lifted it and set it aside, blowing out the candle and sliding down beneath the sheets next to Andrew. He laid his arms around him, smiling as he felt sleep begin to set in.

It would be interesting to see how Andrew reacted when he was informed of his late-night speech habits.
