A Wasting Disease.
She was not well, you could see it in her eyes, that is if her dramatic weight loss and pale skin didn't already tell you.
She was one of those people who always looked beautiful no matter what she wore or how sick she became. She was not a pretty woman, no, pretty was too a small word for a woman like her. She was beautiful, only beautiful.
It was incredibly unfair. She didn't deserve what life was throwing at her, yet she seemed so resigned in the fact that her life was coming to an end very soon. She refused to believe otherwise, maybe to prepare herself? He didn't know.
She had once told him to never give up hope, he told her the same. He could see all hope in her eyes was lost. He was not a religious man, but he could swear she was being punished by something unknown to him.
Life just wasn't that cruel without a helping hand.
