Within the Darkness

He has the upper hand here
There's no doubt about that
To him, your presence is so mere
You might as well be a gnat

Opulent in time, he waits silently
Expanding himself until he's sure he's in control
He mustn't have a human think they have an ounce of superiority
No, fear must permeate the soul

Monster by definition, but by no means imaginary
He is feared by all, big and small
Almost always amused by what humans think is scary
He is determined to be the cause of their fall

Ultimately deceiving in his guise
It is easy to fall prey
Most likely he'll be your demise
Whenever he's out to play

.
No one would suspect him when he's "hidden"
In this state, he is innocent
To accuse him of evil as he is now is forbidden
Human standards are so redundant
.

Calm and collected he must remain
But not a stranger to calling upon desperate measures
He has a penchant for causing fear before pain
The terror in his victims' screams are treasures
.

.
Understanding the human plight is underneath his comprehension
He mimics them well, from quirks to culture
Down to the point where he calls it perfection
However, humans are flawed; could his assimilation be considered a failure?

Lurking

Underfoot
.

Slithering
.
.
.
People fear what lies within the darkness
He is the reason behind that fear
The ghostly specters - beware their sharpness
Keep close those you hold dear

Ribbons of impossibly sharp teeth flare out beneath his toes
They threaten to make a meal out of those who step carelessly
And laugh at whomever goes
Humans are chock full of stupidity
.
.
.
It is futile to flee
The slashing shadows make their move
They cackle with glee
The meal goes down smooth
.
.
Darkness overtakes all
.
.
Evil eyes smile; who is next to fall?
