My own rewrite of a scene from Revenant Wings. However, it is not set in the game, so do not worry about spoilers. Set one year after te return of Ashe's ring. Once you reach the *** you have reached where it breaks off from the actual dialogue.

She wasn't good with goodbyes, and she sure hoped this wouldn't be one..

Ashe stood beside the palace wall, the place where, making sure to speak loudly enough that all could hear but specifically one man, knew she was to be.

Balthier and Fran had taken up Ashe's invite to join the old party for a get together. Lord Larsa, Basch, Vaan, Penelo, all were in attendance.

"It's A little drafty, don't you think?" A familiar voice was heard as the man came and stood next to the queen. "You're like to be carried off."

The queen turned to him with a slight smile. "I wanted to feel the wind on my face. I'll not be long."

Balthier studied her for a moment. "As you say."

"There's something I-" Ashe sighed, gazing off into the sky.

"Go on." Balthier placed a hand in her shoulder.

"I-I traveled to Rozarria not long past. I saw Al-Cid..." Ashe trailed off, wondering what his response would be.

The sky pirate's voice grew softer, a sad tone creeping in. "A state visit, was it?" Balthier sighed. "A queen's work is never done."

Ashe tried to word the next part so he would catch the meaning. " You really must see a sunset in the Ambervale. It was beautiful." In other words, Al-Cid wrote up a marriage proposal.

"No more beautiful than the view from the Strahl, I should think." His voice was a bit jealous, protective, and a hint of loving.

"If only I'd had the time to appreciate it then." She turned and looked into his eyes, brushing her hand against his.

"There's still time." The leading man spoke gently, his eyes fixed on the woman I front of him.

Ashe's voice was melancholy " Is there, Balthier?"

*** The man stopped her as she started to walk back into the palace. "Princess... What is it about the view from Ambervale that makes it so lovely?"

Ashe turned around, pausing for a second. " It's order. The properness of it all. How everything stayed constant as the sun slowly sank into the ground."

"And what of the view from the Strahl? Had you time to appreciate it, of course."

Ah, he had caught on well. "I suppose it would be the ever shifting colors as we soared carefree. How you could never pinpoint exactly what would happen next."

Balthier smiled slightly. " And if I were to offer you the chance to see it from the Strahl once more so as you can enjoy it?"

"I could think of nothing better," she grinned at him. "If, of course, you would then be able to view the sunset from Dalmasca's throne room?"

He nodded. "Of course, Princess."
