Aren't girls supposed to marry boys?
They're 5 when Brittany proposes to Santana, on the playground behind the school, right into the sandbox where they first met 2 years before.
Santana's mom is going to be mad at her for putting sand in her shoes again, and Brittany's knees are getting all scrapped by the little grains of sand; but none of them really cares.
"Santana, will you marry me?" Brittany asks, holding out a plastic ring with a small yellow duck on it.
Santana first smiles, before frowning a little and scrunching her nose in an adorable way.
"Aren't girls supposed to marry boys, though?" she asks, confused.
"Mom says you should marry the person you like the most." Brittany answers brightly. "And I like you more than my kitten Lord Tubbington!"
Santana is still confused, because that's not what her mom says. Her mom says that girls are supposed to marry boys, and to fall in love with boys. Not girls. She really likes Brittany though, and if she had to choose, she would rather marry her than one of the stupid boys of her class, like Noah Puckerman or Finn Hudson.
"I like you too, Brittany." She finally says, and it makes Brittany smile. Santana loves seeing Brittany smile. She's ok with marrying a girl if it's Brittany, and if it means that she can see her smile all the time.
"So would you marry me?" Brittany asks again, waiting for an answer.
"Yes." Santana says, and Brittany's smile is worth everything her mom could say.
They're 25 when Santana proposes to Brittany, on the playground behind the school, right into the sandbox where they first met 22 years before.
Brittany's shoes will probably be ruined by the sand by the time she takes them off, and Santana's knees are getting all scrapped by the little grains of sand; but none of them really cares.
"Brittany Susan Pierce, will you marry me?" Santana asks, holding out the same ring with a small yellow duck Brittany proposed to her with 20 years ago.
Brittany's eyes widen before filling with tears, and a beaming smile appears on her face. She's about to answer right away and to throw herself into Santana's arms, but a better idea strikes her.
"Aren't girls supposed to marry boys, though?" she asks, a small smirk playing on her lips.
Santana smiles and decides to play along, even if her heart is about to stop at the fact that she still didn't get a proper answer.
"Your mom says you should marry the person you love the most. And I love you more than singing, the drawing you gave me when I first met you, and Breadsticks combined."
Brittany's smile spreads wider, and it makes Santana want to explode into millions of fireworks. Oh, how she loves this smile.
"I love you too, Santana." Brittany says while taking her hand to help her stand up, bringing her closer to her.
"So will you marry me?" Santana asks again in a whisper, her eyes closed at the feeling of Brittany's forehead against hers, their breathings mingling.
"Yes." Brittany answers before kissing her, right into the sandbox where they first met 22 years before, and where she first proposed to Santana 2 years after.
The ring, which was the perfect size for Santana the first time, still perfectly – and surprisingly – fits on Brittany's finger this time.
Brittany thinks it's magic.
Santana knows it's just because she took it to the jeweler to enlarge it. The bewildered face of the man when he saw it isn't something she's going to forget anytime soon.
