Chapter 1: The Walk
Clay Jensen was stressed out. He could not stop thinking about the events of the party. Even now, he was stressing over it.
Ever since that night, he had started noticing something. Hannah Baker was not as happy as he thought. She was no longer smiling.
All of this led Clay to believe that he had to clear his mind out. So he decided to go on a walk. He did not usually go on walks, but right now he felt as if he needed a lot of time to clear his head out.
He also remembered that Bryce was hosting a party today, so he decided to check it out.
Clay had been walking for a nice half-hour, and he was near the party. He could see that it was ending. He decided to just walk past. After a minute, he heard a moaning noise.
"What is that?" Clay wondered. When he got very close, he could hear Hannah.
"What is going on? Am I going delusional?" he thought. But something did not feel right, so Clay decided to run to the source of the sound. The sound led to the backyard of Bryce's house. When he got there, he saw a sight that would forever haunt him.
Hannah and Bryce were in Bryce's hot tub. Hannah was trying to get out, but Bryce would pull her back. She would cry out ever so often. Clay realized that Bryce was raping Hannah. Not just Hannah, but his Hannah. Clay's heart stopped.
"What are you doing to her? Let go of her you monster!" screamed Clay at Bryce.
Hannah looked up at the source of the disturbance and a smile came to her face. Bryce looked up, and was shocked, but it quickly faded.
Caly ran up and started getting Bryce off of Hannah. When he was off of her, Clay punched Bryce in the face.
Bryce was mad. "How dare you motherfucker!"
Clay was even angrier. "What did you just do to her? Did you just rape Hannah Baker?"
Bryce responded "No. It is not rape. She wanted it. I was just helping her."
Clay would not back up. He rescued Hannah from the hot tub. She looked up to him and said "thank you Clay." Clay told her "run back home." She replied "no, i'm staying here. If you're saving me, I'll stand here until you are safe and sound." Clay looked at Hannah with a look of admiration, until he remembered the matter.
Clay stood up to Bryce and punched hum straight in the nose. "That's for touching Hannah, you piece of shit." There was a loud crack, and Bryce started getting livid. Clay decided to kick him straight in the groin. "And that is for raping her, you motherfucking asshole!
Bryce hunched over in pain, but got over it. He proceeded to go and beat up Clay. However, the rush of adrenaline made Clay strong. He caught Bryce's hands and twisted them until Bryce cried out. Clay went over to him and punched him in his stomach and kicked his groin until he was on the ground from the pain. "You do not mess with a girl's boyfriend."
Clay started walking Hannah back home.
