Dumbledore sat at his desk, pondering what his next move would be. It's quite odd how a headmaster has a more important role in the future of the Wizarding World than the prime minister. But he does, and his next choice may be the most important yet.
He just received a prophecy from Miss Sybill Trelawney. At first she gave the impression that she was not a Seer, or gifted in divination in any way. Although it must have been disheartening to Sybill, he cannot give the role of a divination teacher to someone who lacks an inner eye, or rather. But as soon as he turned his back, she spurted out a prophecy, one that is vital to the survival of the human race, muggle and magical alike.
The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies...
Desperation must have caused Trelawney's Inner Eye to activate, but he still gladly gave her the position of a divination professor. Seers are hard to come by and only a few schools have the opportunity to have a real one teach their divination class.
He paced back and forth in front of his desk.
The ones that thrice defied him must be talking about Frank and Alice… or Lily and James. Maybe two members of the Order held a tryst? But, they would be pregnant to be born on June. This brought up another problem of what soon meant. He couldn't ask Sybill, because she'd most likely point him to an empty pot of tea, or rather, a ball she did not know how to use. Besides, it is not a guarantee that what she would tell him would be true, the future is hard to predict, and different actions call for different outcomes.
Eureka!
You can't change the outcome of a prophecy, but you can change the way the outcome occurs! He doesn't know what is supposed to happen, but he believes that Tom will go after one of the babies. This will most definitely be fatal for the parents.
What if, just what if…
He relocated the families?
A/N:
This part of the story occurred just before the end of the first Wizarding War, which will cannot end, because Dumbledore will only allow one person to come with the Potters. Therefore, Pettigrew cannot betray the Potters because he will not be their Secret Keeper. Sirius will be the one that comes along (Wormtail never really had a legitimate relationship with the rest of the Marauders and Lupin wouldn't want to endanger the Potters with his monthly transformations) and it would be taking it a bit too far to have Peter come abroad, just to go back after a simple charm. Dumbledore couldn't have known that Harry would give the wizarding world a break after Lily sacrificed herself. So, the Wizarding World (or at least the UK) will be still in progress when the story picks up (in Harry's third year).
