Why? How could this have happened?
Light Yagami had to get out of that damned warehouse;he had to get away from the stares of his former colleagues, from his hated rival Near.
So he ran. He didn't have any destination in mind when he flung the door open, but he knew he could use this time to recollect his thoughts. Even with all of his injuries, Light was still thinking about how he could twist this situation to his advantage.
"It's over Light, just go quietly and accept it."
Shut up! It's not over until I say so! responded Light childishly to that annoying voice in his head.
Inside his heart, Light knew he was finished and that this run was probably his last. But he continued to run on, trying to avoid the truth. If only he could get to a safe haven, if only these injuries didn't slow him down. But more importantly, since when did his plans come down to 'if only's?
Where had he gone wrong? Did he make any stupid moves? He suddenly wished he could go back to those first days of having the powerful notebook.Would he have changed anything? No, all his moves had been flawless, there's nothing more he could have done.
Almost in response to these thought, Light saw of a ghost of the past before his eyes. It was more of a memory than a ghost, but Light couldn't help but to notice it. It was the image of himself, notebook-less and reading a book intensely. Maybe he hadn't noticed this before, but he could now see that the notebook had a strange effect on his after all of these years of use. The Light of the past seemed innocent, almost pure without the notebook's influence tainting him. Was this truly him before all of the had happened? And was time truly running out for him? It was always said that you saw your life flash before your eyes before you died, surely that couldn't have been a warning.
As Light reached an abandoned building, he knew that this might be his final resting place. Avery undignified resting place for the god of the new world, but at this point he was simply Light Yagami once again.
"Once you are about to die, I will be the one who writes your name in this notebook."
Remembering the words Ryuk had said to him several years ago, Light began to feel a sense of relief. He felt like any other normal human which meant that he was saf-
His thoughts were cut short as he felt the first pangs of pain spreading throughout his body. So...it really was over. He had no hope left now, in a matter of minutes his body would be left here, while his soul went to some unknown place. It wasn't fair...it wasn't fair at all. All he had tried to do was make the world a better place to live in. Was that such an evil goal?
"Your goal was certainly noble Light-kun, but that means you used to achieve them made you no better than those you punished."
L?
Light could now truly accept that fact that he was dying now that he saw his former rival standing across from him. Maybe L was there to take him to the afterlife. Maybe he was there to declare his victory over Kira. Maybe he wasn't there at all and he was seeing things due to blood loss. Whatever the case, L's presence calmed Light who slowly felt his conscious slipping as time went on.
L..you've won..
With that final thought, Light Yagami closed his eyes and departed from the world that he had created.
