My first Chuck story. Just this small oneshot. Based on the idea of Sarah and her Dad not only doing con's in America. Not sure if I want to continue it into an actual story, just putting it on here. May become a flashback if story is developed.
I do not own Chuck. I do however own a very Australian accent of which i am extremely proud :)
Dusk
The young girl peered around the corner of the alleyway, her heart beating rapidly against her ribcage as she sprinted out across the street and down the road to where the city ended and the endlessness of the country began.
She felt nothing but the chilliness of the wind battering against her skin and the strain of each expanding and contracting muscle with every step she took as she ran past the houses and into the dark underlay of bushes and trees.
Twigs and leaves snagged at her white blouse as she manoeuvred her way through the dense bush, her eyes rapidly adjusting to the impending darkness of dusk. She could hear the distant shrill whistling of the steam train as it made its way slowly across the rusted tracks and towards the almost deserted station. She increased her pace; desperate to catch up to the train and her only hope of survival, breathing a sigh of relief as she caught sight of the large machine, steam billowing from its cylinder.
She reached the station just as the train came to an abrupt halt, the pressure from the brakes causing the tires of the train to rub against the old tracks in such a way that the sharp shrill of the whistle from the train guard could not be heard over the ear piercing noise. While the guard was occupied with helping a young lady into one of the unoccupied first class cabins, straining to carry the heavy luggage and move it up into the luggage compartment, the girl slipped through the gap between the two middle class carriages and sprinted through the carriage on her right until she found the luggage compartment.
Nestling herself in between two tarnished leather suitcases she curled into a ball, wrapping her arms over her legs, making herself invisible to anyone who happened to walk by. She heard the whistle of the guard and felt the sudden lurch as train began to slowly roll across the tracks, they were finally moving.
The girl closed her eyes, willing sleep to take hold as the train steadily picked up speed. Just as darkness began to override her sense she had one fleeting thought of the life she left behind, and the life she was moving towards.
