A Nightmare Come True
By Shadow Gamer
Link had everything in life worked out for him. Any number of girls could be his, he had a piece of the Triforce, and was famous for saving Hyrule. But even the hero of time has fears. This is the story of what happened when his worst fear came true.
It was a nice and sunny day and Link had been called to Hyrule Castle. He got up early and called Epona on his ocarina. It was his second time being 17, Ganondorf was still trapped in the sacred realm, and Zelda was in love with him. He was on top of the world and nothing could change that, or so he thought.
He soon arrived at the castle and got off Epona, the king was waiting inside with some bad news.
"Link," the king said "thank god you came, I have some bad news. A week back an evil hunter caught some Zora's in his net. He then fried them and sold them without telling what they were. However the Zora King revealed it himself, and announced war. When we tried to negotiate with him he said that the Zora Princess Ruto..."
Link could see where this was going and he broke into a sweat.
"Link are you listening?" the king asked
"Yes." Link squeaked.
"Good, now as I was saying the Zora Princess Ruto became engaged to you 7 years ago, the war will be stopped if you finally marry her and started again if you divorce her." The king explained "and we have no choice but to force you to marry her, it's too bad. I thought you would marry Zelda, you would have made a fine son in law."
"No!" gasped Link "What happens if I refuse?"
"Hylian people will fall to the Zora and you will be considered a traitor and executed." The king replied.
Zelda walked through the door. She looked like she had been crying.
"I'm sorry Link but you must do it to save us all." She said
"Well, I guess I have no choice." Link said.
The news was delivered to Zora's Domain where everyone was delighted. The wedding was to be held a week from then. Preparations were being made, Zora chefs were trying to find a good fish and chocolate cake, and Ruto just couldn't wait. She began trying on dresses, since Zora's only wear clothing on special occasions she didn't have any. Everyone was happy, except Link who was already forced to move in with Ruto.
"Linky, wanna come see my new dress." She yelled.
"Yeah, sure, fine, whatever." Link said like he wasn't paying attention.
Ruto came in wearing a long blue dress with fish patterns on it.
"Do you like it?" she asked
"Sure." Link said in the same non-paying attention tone.
Was he really going to have to live out the rest of his life like this? Maybe he'd find something he liked about her, then again what were the odds of that. She was a fish and he was a man, it wasn't right.
So came the day when he had to marry Ruto. A huge cake made of fish and chocolate was served. Link had to kiss Ruto's slimy fish lips. The sages were there and so was everyone else in Hyrule. Link had never been more embarrassed in his life, and felt he never would be again.
A year passed and some how Link managed to live, but one day he just couldn't take it any more. He broke down into tears.
"Link, what's wrong?" asked Ruto
"I've been tortured this last year!" he yelled
"Oh, I understand. I guess your right 17 was too young to get married." She replied
Link was confused he meant that he hated her but she understood it as they had been too young and hadn't been ready yet.
"Tell you what, I'll divorce you and we'll marry again when were 25." She said.
Link wasn't happy still, but it that was as good as he was going to get. And so they divorced and everyone lived happily ever after, until Link became 25, that is.
The End?
