A/N: So, I've always wanted to try a dialogue only fic and I don't know how this came out but I kinda like it. I figure this takes place when they're like 11 or 10ish. It's really fluffy and I like the undertones and subtext to their dialogue, especially Maya's, but I don't know if it's strong enough without other text. Tell me what you think.
"Maya, hold my hand."
"What? No, that's gay."
"But we're best friends."
"Riles, stop whining, it's weird."
"Oh, come on, please?"
"No."
"But Maya."
"No, Riley."
"Pwease?"
"No. N - O."
"Why not?"
"Because that's just weird. And we're both girls."
"So?"
"So people will think we're lesbians. And we're not."
"But we're best friends, Maya, just hold my hand."
"Why should I?"
"Because . . . Because—because sea otters do!"
". . . What?"
"Sea otters hold hands when they sleep—I read it somewhere!"
"Riles, we're not sea otters. And we're not even sleeping. Why would sea otters hold hands in their sleep anyways?"
"So they don't float away from each other."
"We're still not sea otters. And I'm not going to float away."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive, now shut up and just buy me food."
"No."
"No?"
"No."
"Did Riley Matthews just say no to me?"
"Riley Matthews did and she'll do it again!"
"What? Riley!"
"Hold my hand."
"Riley, I'm not gonna hold your damn hand."
"Then I'm not gonna buy you food, Maya."
"Just buy me food."
"Just hold my hand."
"But we're girls!"
"But I love you."
". . ."
"You heard me, Maya Hart, you're my bestest friend and I love you."
"I love you too."
"Then hold my hand so you don't float away!"
"Fine, you little sea otter."
"Yay!"
"Why is your hand so warm?"
Why is yours so cold?"
"I love you, Riles."
"I love you, Maya."
". . . I promise I won't float away."
"Good."
"Sigh."
reviews are love.
