Broken – Chapter 1
A Vampire Knight Fanfic.
So. I realized "Hey. I haven't done ANYTHING in forever. Why don't I write on my favorite story, eh?"
Sorry. High school is a pain in my rump.
Enjoy~ Edited 2/1/15
Seems like just yesterday, you were a part of me...
Her black shoes clicked lightly on the hard floors, echoing softly throughout the hallways. Yuuki could barely hold in her sigh as she rubbed her forehead. Last night, all she could do was toss and turn, thinking about the past she was beginning to unravel, but it only caused an even deeper headache. Heading to her dorm, she quickly showered and dressed, feeling the pressure to be on time. Stepping out of the bathroom, she quickly made her way outside to start patrolling.
After scanning their usual meeting point for the silver-haired boy, Yuuki could only narrow her eyes in frustration. 'Damn that lazy Zero, always skipping out on patrols!' She mentally sighed, but couldn't help but smile at her thoughts of Zero. Although he was lazy, arrogant, and antisocial, she could never stay mad at him, no matter how hard she tried. It wasn't like she was in love with him, but she couldn't deny having a small crush on the silver-haired teen, but she was in love with Kaname! There was no way she could fall for Zero... Right? But even then, she couldn't deny her attraction to him, however small it may be. Once upon a time, she had even daydreamed about kissing him, what his lips would feel like-
THWAP!
Yuuki quickly straightened up, making a small noise of surprise at the sudden movement, and backed away, reaching for Artemis out of habit, but quickly relaxed once she realized it was Zero. Narrowing her eyes at the silver-haired beauty, she quickly punched him in the chest, huffing.
"Zero! Don't sneak up on me like that, you big meanie! And why are you so late?! Would it kill you to be on time once in a while?" She glared at him, but he seemed amused. Well, as amused as Zero can get.
"At least I'm not daydreaming. You really shouldn't let people sneak up on you like that, it'll only cause trouble. Come on, let's get this over with." Zero started to walk away before Yuuki could get another word in.
"Coming, Zero!" She sighed, trodding after him. It was always like this; he would never really open up and talk with her. Even still, she was glad that he started to speak to her after so long, as a few years ago he hardly said two words to her.
A flash of movement caught Yuuki's eye in the forest, and normally she would ignore something like this and write it off as an animal, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. Her heart had began to race, and the hair on the back of her neck stood at attention. She could only stand there, paralyzed with a terror that she couldn't exactly explain.
"Yuuki, come on. Stop fooling around." Zero called from ahead, snapping Yuuki out of her trance. Shaking her head, she merely passed it off as an illusion, or perhaps an animal. Just another unreasonable fear... right?
Another flash of movement caught Yuuki's eye, in another section of the forest, but before she could tell Zero about it, he had already disappeared around the corner, leaving Yuuki to fend for herself.
"Looks like I'm going alone…" She grumbled, shaking her head before leaping down into the forest below, grasping a tree branch to lessen her fall. Wincing slightly at the rough bark slicing through her skin, she quickly dropped to the ground, landing smoothly on the leaf littered ground.
It was then that she noticed that the forest itself was all too silent, barren of even the chirping of a bird or rustling of the leaves. It was as if time itself had frozen, leaving behind a landscape barren of life. Her eyes scanned through the trees, but not even a slight movement caught her eye.
Venturing forward as silently as she could manage, she quickly followed in the direction of the figure she had seen, curiosity driving her forward. Peering through some shrubs, she could barely hold her gasp at the sight she saw. Tears slid silently down her face, her blood running cold. She no longer cared about making noise, and quickly turned to run, pushing branches out of her way as she ran aimlessly through the forest.
It was Kaname. And he was with Ruka. His back was to a tree, and she was kissing him. Directly. And he didn't look like he wanted to struggle.
She continued to run, tears clotting her vision, unaware of the antisocial friend she had grown fond of tracking the scent of her blood from a small distance away.
"Damnit, Yuuki! I can't take my eyes off of you, can I?" Zero muttered, catching a whiff of her blood lingering, pushing through branches and underbrush. It was too silent; not even his sensitive ears could pick up anything. He silently crept forward, following Yuuki's scent until he caught up with her.
And he was glad he did.
Yuuki was sitting just a distance away, sadness and anger filling her heart. All she could think of was the man she was in love with... kissing another girl. It felt as if he had ripped a hole in the middle of her chest, and she wished that he would have instead. Turning at the hand on her shoulder, it was all she could do to try and halt her tears, but they wouldn't stop.
'Of course. Kaname wouldn't want someone like you; a mere human. Even Zero doesn't want you! Look at him, his eyes are still so blank. He doesn't care either; this is what you deserve. To be alone for the rest of your life like the pathetic human you are.'
Standing, Yuuki quickly tore way, racing out of the small clearing as if her life depended on it. She couldn't handle another rejection, not today... She continued to run until she knew he wasn't following her, and her muscles screamed in protest. Looking around, she realized that she no longer knew where she was, and a sense of dread filled her being.
Heart racing, she quickly looked about, her palms clammy and adrenaline pumping with the same paralyzing fear that she had felt earlier. In her fear, she had forgotten to look behind her, and quickly cursed herself as a hand descended over her mouth.
Twisting and thrashing about, Yuuki quickly tried to rack her brain for those self defense moves Zero had once taught her, but her mind was blank. All she could focus on was the terror pounding through her veins as she fought to be freed.
"Stand still, stupid human..." A deep, gravelly voice sounded from behind her, and her air supply was swiftly cut off, and her thrashing began to cease.
And all she could think as her world blurred and faded to black was 'Zero... Please save me...'
Did you like it? It isn't too bad, I don't think… but this was just a random thought I had. Wait for the next chapter, it'll be much longer :3
