Saturday Morning

"Hi dada." Karlie said excitedly as she rushed to Nick the second he walked into the house early one morning.

"Hi kiddo, why are you up so early?" He asked the toddler.

"Baby Hundy cryin' her wake me up." She responded.

"Baby Hundley cried and she woke you up?" He asked.

"Yeah." She said.

"Oh I see, that's too bad." He told her.

"It ok, me want to wake up." She told him.

He chuckled and then looked over at Jackie who smiled at him as she sat on the couch feeding Hundley.

"Read story?" Karlie asked Nick as she showed him a book that was in her hand.

"Were you reading a story to mommy?" He asked her with a smile.

"No, Hundy." She replied.

"You were reading to baby Hundley?"

"Yeah."

"That's nice. Let's go sit on the couch and you can read it to me too." He said as he picked her up and carried her over to the couch and then sat down next to Jackie and the baby.

"Hi." He told Jackie as he leaned over and gave her a kiss.

"Hi, you're home early." She stated.

"Yeah it was a slow night so I got out of there."

"That's good."

"Yeah, it's nice." He agreed.

"Read story." Karlie said impatiently.

"Ok." He said as he took the book from her.

"What does a cow say?" Nick asked as he read the first page.

"Mooooo." Karlie said.

"Good, what does a pig say?" He asked as he read the next page.

"Oink." Karlie replied.

"That's right, what does a dog say?"

"Dada me want pancakes." She said. "A dog says dada me want pancakes?" Nick asked her with a chuckle.

"No me." Karlie said as she burst into a fit of giggles.

Nick laughed.

"Alright, daddy can make you pancakes." Nick told her.

"No daddy can't make pancakes because mommy forgot to buy pancake batter and we're all out, we do have frozen waffles though." Jackie told Karlie.

"Tyrup?" (syrup)

"Yeah, we have syrup." Jackie responded.

"So do you want daddy to make you waffles?" Nick asked.

"Yeah." Karlie told him.

"How about you mommy?" Nick asked Jackie.

"Yes please." Jackie answered.

"Ok." Nick said as he stood up.

"Hundy no waffles, Hundy no teeth." Karlie told Nick innocently.

"That's right, she doesn't have any teeth so she can't have any waffles huh?" Nick said.

"Mama give her a bottle." Karlie informed him.

"Yep, mommy gave her a bottle because she was hungry wasn't she?"

"Yeah." Karlie agreed.

Nick made the waffles and then drowned them in syrup and then cut them into small pieces so Karlie wouldn't choke on them.

"How are they girls?" He asked Jackie and Karlie as he sat across the table from them, holding Hundley in his arms.

"Good." Karlie declared.

"Very good, thank you." Jackie added.

"You're welcome." He told them.

"I'll go make you some and then I'll take the baby so you can eat." Jackie offered.

"Oh, no thanks, Greg and I went out for a late lunch last night and I'm still full." He answered.

"Egg?" (Greg) Karlie asked excitedly.

"Yep." Nick said with a laugh.

"Hi mommy, me want some." Jasmine said as she came down the stairs with wild bed head and looked at her sister's plate of waffles.

"Good morning sleepy head." Jackie told her as she got up to make her some waffles.

"Hi daddy." She told Nick.

"Hi there princess." He answered her with a smile.

"Hi baby Hundy." Jasmine said as she peered at her baby sister who was now contently sucking on a pacifier in Nick's arms.

"Hi Kari." Jasmine told her little sister.

"Hi, me eat waffles." The little girl informed her.

"Yeah, mommy make me some too." Jasmine told her.

Nick and Jackie looked at each other and smiled.

One by one the other kids woke up and all wanted waffles too.

Nick smiled as he looked at his whole family sitting around the kitchen table, he loved mornings like this, it made coming home from the lab even better!

The End!
