Chapter 1: Grumble

A loud uncanny grumble pierced through Roy Mustang's stomach. His orbs widened as he unsuccessfully tried to muffle the growl with his arms, giving him the appearance of someone cradling a baby, or a wound…

Roy slowly closed his eyes; a corner of his mouth slanted down in discomfort. Thoughts erupted in his mind, as he tried to ignore yet another growl emitting from beneath his arms.

As such a childish and…embarrassing sound was this was why he would never consent himself to ever skip a meal. But now……this! His hands clenched into fists and shook. His reputation will be completely destroyed!!! He could see it now…everyone around him would point and laugh. The well known and respected colonel………being laughed at-! He hesitated. And where in the world was he in the first place! He glanced around the setting for the first time. Green, thought the colonel as his black eyes swiveled side to side in its socket, his body stood rigid and tense as he looked around his surroundings…green, he repeated……with vines, leaves, trees, plants, and animals…

He stared at the monkey that was closest to him. A monkey, how…wonderful. His eye lids halfway closed in disbelief. How could he have not seen this before? This……

this Jungle.

As if in response the monkey near him chattered, and scratched its rear. Roy glared at the animal, making eye contact. The monkey stared him back with its beady little eyes. Was this animal insulting him? Before he could answer his own question he stopped himself. No, no, this is stupid, he accused himself, shaking his head, and animals are stupid. They're brain-dead. Yes, that's it. He nodded at his own assurance.

But what in the world was he doing here?! Oh, how perfect, another reason for military to mock me to the rest of my miserable life. I, the respected colonel, have gotten lost in an unknown jungle! Someone up there must hate me.

The trembling colonel's eyes snapped open in remembrance.

And of course-he snarled at the name……Edward. He would surely mock him for the rest of his life, or even longer. Roy could picture his face vividly, for it was not a face he could just forget. That same mocking grin on his face, his golden eyes just trembling in amusement and laughter and………what was the whole military here!? In half a second Roy's eyes grew so large, it could have put Nina a run for her money. He spotted Havoc, smoking as usual, a bored look on his face, a hand on his…stomach? Breda, asleep on the dirty ground…rubbing his mid-section, and Armstrong, even King Bradley, and oh for the love of God, Riza was staring at that dog she had recently adopted with an unusual…look in her eyes. How in the flaming hells-

Then he stopped, for a familiar voice had reached his ears, bringing him out of the jumble that was currently his mind. He paused to let his arms fall to his sides, straightened his back and slightly craned his neck around to look behind him.

Well, speak of the devil.
