Chapter 1: Pranksgiving

The girls were preparing lunch when there was a knock at the door. Lauren set down the bowl of rolls on the table before walking over and getting the door. It was the cadets. Smiling, she stood aside and let them enter as the girls finished setting the table. When all of the cadets had entered, Lauren shut the door.

Turning back to the table, she smiled hugely to herself. Instead of the usual seating arrangement where the ghouls took one side of the table and the cadets another, they were all sitting together. Baxter sat in between Tanis and Phantasma. Beside Phantasma was Jamal, beside him Grunt, beside him sat Elsa. Across from Elsa sat Roger. Beside him sat Sibella. Beside her was Lauren, Tug on her other side. Next to Tug was Winnie, with Miguel sitting next to her on the end.

"Thanks for inviting us to lunch, girls." Grunt said, piling food onto his plate.

"You're welcome." Phantasma said with a laugh.

"It was fun, actually. Lauren's been teaching us how to cook." Tanis added excitedly.

The cadets all turned towards Lauren, who gave a mock bow, with looks of deep appreciation on their faces. "Well, it's delicious." Tug replied, biting into a piece of chicken.

Matches strolled under the table, gladly accepting any handouts he was given.

Winnie, could you pass the salt?" Jamal asked.

"Sure thing," Winnie replied, pushing the salt in his direction.

Jamal turned the shaker upside down and started shaking some on to his mashed potatoes when the whole lid fell off. The salt quickly drained out of the container and into Jamal's plate. He sat the shaker down as the entire table laughed. "Okay, Winnie, I'll admit that that was pretty funny," Jamal told her.

"But I didn't do it," Winnie replied, her laughter hard to suppress.

"Winnie, I'm trying to compliment you. Just accept it." Jamal said before turning to Lauren and asking "Where can I get a new plate."

"I'll get it for you," Lauren replied, extending her hand to Jamal's old plate.

He went to hand it to her when Winnie said "Wait, Lauren. Don't take his plate yet." before turning to Jamal and saying "For the last time, I didn't do that to the salt shaker."

"You were the last person to have it so it must've been you." Jamal flung back at her.

"I didn't do it!" Winnie shouted in frustration.

"I see only one way to settle this," Miguel interjected.

"Settle what?" Winnie asked him exasperatedly.

Miguel paused for dramatic effect before saying "We need to have a prank war."

"A prank war? Just because Jamal spilled some salt on his plate?" Elsa asked.

"I didn't spill anything. Winnie purposefully unscrewed the lid." Jamal told her.

"I did not!" Winnie cried, annoyed.

"I think a prank war is a great idea! Our comrade must be avenged." Grunt said in agreement, cracking his knuckles.

"Oh grow up. He can get a new plate and we can put this whole thing behind us." Sibella exclaimed.

"No, it's too late for that. We must have war." Baxter shouted.

"No, Baxter. The girls are right. We should just put this behind us." Jamal said,

taking his plate back from Lauren. "They invited us to lunch and I plan on enjoying it. Winnie, you must try the potatoes." Jamal added, flinging a handful at her.

As soon as the potatoes hit Winnie's front, chaos erupted. Having already thrown food, Jamal had an advantage over everyone else. He scooped up another handful of salty potatoes and sent them at Phantasma who was too stunned to let them phase through her. They made contact with her face and she quickly wiped it off as Jamal burst into laughter.

"Oh, it's on." Lauren proclaimed, grabbing the bowl of mashed potatoes in her hands.

She jumped into the air and began nailing the cadets. There was a squeak in her ear. Turning around, Lauren saw Sibella in bat form spitting peas onto the cadets. Laughing, Lauren aimed a shot at Roger who flung a roll at Sibella, taking her out of the sky. To properly avenge her friend, Lauren zoomed down towards Roger and upturned the bowl of potatoes, spilling the lot of them onto his head.

"Not fair, Lauren!" Roger shouted as he shook the food from his hair.

"'All's fair in love and war.' And this is war." Lauren quoted before searching for more ammo.

To avenge herself, and make up for the fact that she had been struck first, Winnie was throwing cheesy macaroni at every cadet in the room. She hit Tug so hard his hat got knocked off his head.

Miguel had built a catapult out of utensils and was using it very successfully. With two well-fired rounds of chicken, he took Lauren out of the sky. She looked down at her shirt and screamed. It would take a lot to get those stains out of her shirt. "Uh oh," Miguel muttered fearfully as his catapult burst into flames.

Tug scooped up his hat that Winnie had knocked off and put it back on his head. As he did this he saw Miguel's catapult. Confused, he looked at Lauren who was glaring at Miguel from the ground. Tug turned back to Miguel and began laughing. He was laughing so hard that when Elsa threw a pie at him he didn't even duck. He simply continued to laugh.

Tanis was using her bandages to fling food onto the cadets. A scoop of peas hit Baxter, a piece of chicken hit Grunt. She sent a rapid-fire wave of food at them. Elsa took out every cadet who attempted to stand up again.

After a while, there was no more food to throw and everyone was covered in food. Lauren was the first to break the silence. "Next time we have a food fight, let's save it for your school."

"You can't deny that that was fun, though," Roger replied jovially.

"So is this the end of the prank war?" Tanis asked.

"No, I don't think so. We should prolong this." Miguel replied with a grin.

"Prolong it? By how much?" Elsa asked.

"How about a week?" Tug suggested.

"Sounds good to me. How do we decide the winner?" Winnie asked.

"We could end the war with a paintball fight this Saturday," Lauren suggested, her eyes gleaming with excitement.

"A paintball fight? You girls against us guys? I hope you're prepared to lose." Grunt said cockily.

"Like you could take us down," Sibella replied, matching his tone.

"Oh, it's on," Baxter said.

"Then it's settled. Let the pranks begin and may the better school win." Lauren said, shaking hands with Tug.

Once their hands pulled apart, Tug looked around the room and said "Sorry about the mess."

"Don't be. I'll have this cleaned up in no time. Literally. Watch." Lauren pulled out her spell book and flipped to the page she desired before saying "'To avoid stress here's my request: please clean up this awful mess.'" With a wave of her hand, the food stains vanished and the bowls, plates, and utensils righted themselves, perfectly clean. Slipping the spellbook back into her pocket, Lauren turned to Tug and asked, "What do you think?"

Tug's face fell at the sight of her magic, having forgotten that all the ghouls had incredible powers. He was slowly regretting challenging them to a prank war when they could use said abilities to easily wipe the floor with them. "I think we're losing this prank war."

"Smart boy," Lauren said, a large smirk plastered on her lips.

"Well, thanks for lunch girls. Come on, men. Let's head back to school. We've got preparations to make." Tug commanded as the cadets marched out of the school.
