Waiting in the Wing

Seeing her with Roxas again, I go over, giving her a small smile; she doesn't notice, too busy laughing, too absorbed in Roxas. I sigh and she turns to me, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Just a little down." I lie. I've become a champion liar since the two had started 'dating'. I won't risk ruining my friendships with the two, no matter how it feels watching them together. At least she was happy. Sappy as it sounded that is my only consolation. And if something changed and he hurt her I'd be there.

Not that that was likely. She was all smiles, and he the perfect gentleman when they were near.

I freeze as she places a hand on mine, hers so small and frail beside mine. "I'm sorry, Axel. But you never said anything. Maybe, if you had things would be different now. Maybe things would be different between us… "

I sit up breathing heavily, a dream, it was just a dream.

This is so damn pathetic! I'm dreaming about the girl! And even in my dreams she's telling me it's too late.

But that can't change a thing. At first I'd thought these feelings were lust, but I know lust. There's some of that wrapped up in there, but there's something else too. Something I can't place. It anchors me down, I'm sinking slowly.

But I'll keep it all to myself. My secrets will go down with me as I crash and burn. Because, what else can I do? Maybe if I'd spoken sooner… but I can only wait. I'll always wait for her, always be there for her. Maybe she'll eventually realize my feelings. And so I wait.
