Mummy, why does Daddy cry?
He's been looking at pictures again.
Talking about the good old days,
Telling me how he misses a friend.
Mummy, why is Daddy sad?
Every April first?
It's his birthday, he should happy.
But today Daddy's his worst.
Mummy, why is Daddy mad?
There's a bottle on the floor.
Spilling firewhiskey everywhere,
I could hear him yelling through the door.
Mummy, why does Daddy talk to Fred?
I don't know who that is.
He talks at night, alone in the dark,
But the only voice there is his.
Mummy, does Fred make Daddy sad?
I tried to talk to him.
He pushed me away and said, "Not now."
The light in his eyes going dim.
Mummy, why does Daddy cry?
At night, when he's by himself?
Why did Daddy burn that old picture?
Of him standing next to himself?
