Under the Mistletoe

The last few weeks had been strained on everyone, especially their friendship. And a Christmas party was a way to relax Daniel hadn't wanted to, preferring to stay at home with his girls. Truth be told, he didn't want to be in the same room as Andrew Reynolds. Let alone have Shelley be in the same room with him.

They met half way across the room, just by coincidence. He'd seen her mingling around the room. Doing her best to avoid him! They'd hardly spoken the last few weeks. Shelley wanted to keep the peace between herself and Daniel. She did miss his friendship. Andrew had been there for her for a long time. When she had been pregnant with Mia, feeling incredibly alone! Jack was off with SG1 most of the time and so was Sam, so she didn't have anyone to talk too. He was still relatively new to the base and was still finding his feet with SG16. That's when their friendship really started!

Andrew looked around, hoping that no one was watching them.

"Hi," he said.

"Hi," Shelley answered, a little nervously.

Shelley began to feel the palms of her hands sweat.

"How've you been? Haven't seen you around much lately?" Shelley asked.

"I'm good."
"I heard you and Carrie broke up? I'm really sorry."

Reynolds didn't say anything. He knew now that his relationship with Carrie was kind of a none starter to begin with. His heart not really into it and somewhere else!

Shelley looked up, noticing the sprig of mistletoe on the ceiling above them. Reynolds followed her stare.

"It is Christmas!" he said.

Shelley leaned in slowly, feeling his hand on the side of her face. Lips pressing against hers! It was soft, tender, lasting longer than a Christmas kiss should last. Shelley pulled back, realising that she shouldn't have.

"I'm sorry," she whispered.

She headed towards the kitchen, where she noticed where Sam had gone into earlier. Reynolds watched her. He'd realised two things. One, that it was clear that she could never think of him as anything other than her friend and two, that he was still in love with her.
