Everything comes from nothing. For what could balance infinity but infinity? This is something they seem unable to comprehend. Ironic that the very vessels of infinity are so unaware of their gift. Allowing themselves to be hemmed in by societal boundaries; illusions of impossibilities.
Jareth sighed, brought out of his musings by the incessant rapping on his door. The envy quickly faded to the background so he could deal with the problems of the day. Goblins acting up, chicken feed running low. All predictable, all part of the finite world he was forced to reside in. Whatever he did to spice up his domain only made him more aware of the fact that there was nothing more. Organize what he had to his will, but there was no universe to be explored for him, nothing undefined. Imprisoned inside a program of sorts; a program of dreams, fears, nightmares. Like lines of code, adaptable, yet ending, always, always ending. Only one thing could offer him respite. One wondrous, terrible thing, a key to open his prison door. As if in answer to his thoughts, the words rang through the dusty room.
"I wish the goblins would take you away, right now!" Jareth simply stood for a moment, allowing the words to roll through him, leaving elation in their wake. In seconds, he had molded the nearby atoms to suit his purpose. A glittering black cape lay on his shoulders. Now, finally, he would have another chance to frighten, to entice, as had been done to his brother when Jareth himself was a mere defenseless babe. For the first time in a century, tears rose to his eyes, trembling on the edge of falling. A glittering mix of elation, anticipation and guilt. For he would be leaving, returning Aboveground to die and could want nothing more. But in his place… an innocent child, as he had been. Yes, young one. He thought to the girl who had wished her sister away. I will take your sister away. She will have everything you ever wanted. Royalty, power, to never die… and she will spend her eternity miserable, for there will be nothing to balance the infinity of her life.
Jareth sweeped into the room of the somber girl. Red curls fell around her shoulders, obscuring her downcast eyes. Determined eyes. She was aware of what she had done, and she was glad. This time, there would be no run, no chance of loss. Jareth felt the exact moment when his prison realized this. The Labyrinth closed, trapping the baby inside. Achingly slowly, Jareth's skin began to disintegrate. Across from him, the red- haired girl frantically gestured and yelled, looking around at a loss of what to do. Jareth merely grinned. He was free.
It wasn't until she rushed forward and threw her arms around him, supporting his failing body that the pain began. Fire, spreading out from his heart, burning so much. Shock coursed through him; he had never felt something so pure. The weight of his life seemed to press down on him as he stared into the blue eyes of girl. She was weeping. Weeping for him, a stranger who had stolen her sister away. In that moment, he knew he had found something which could balance the infinity around him. In that moment, he saw love. And in the very moment he realized it was reflected in his own eyes, those eyes glossed over and he fell to the floor, dead.
A/N: Ok, so this was just a little plot- bunny that refused to go away. A bit philosophical for a fanfic, but there you go. I wrote this in around 10 mins, so if there are any mistakes, please point them out! And if you're wondering at my description of the girl, no, she wasn't Sarah. The brief reference to there having been a different time when the labyrinth was run was referring to Sarah. All reviews, good or bad, are appreciated! Hope you enjoyed. Adios!
