[The Selection Trilogy]

A late Summer breeze swept through America's room, lazily, as if nothing bad had just happened. America sighed, trying to calm down. What was the point in yelling at Maxon? "Everything," Her mind told her. "I don't see the problem, America! What's the matter if it takes longer for the castes to be taken care of? Or if it takes a while for the schools and food to get better?" America scoffed, rolling her eyes. "I don't get it!"

"Of course you don't!" She screamed. Everything went still, the summer air coming in. "You'll never get it! How many times did you have to go to bed hungry? Days? Weeks? Did you have to worry about learning the next day? Did you ever have to worry about overheating in the Summer, not having enough water?" Maxon took a step towards her, eyes wide.

"Mer-"

"No." It was all America said, as she shook her head.

"All we do it bicker, especially over important things to you, to me, to the kingdom!"

"Oh America, I-"

America seethed, hot tears flowing down her face as she shook her head again. "Is this all we'll ever be Maxon, Is this all we are!?"
