Author's note: Okay, so… This pairing isn't really my forte… I only wrote this for my friend. But, I hope you like it anyway.
This takes place at the very beginning of season 3.

Disclaimer: If you know it, I, obviously, do not own it.

They were working on a case, the BAU. This one, however, was different. Gideon had, right before, just… disappeared. It was odd for them, having to work without him. They had gotten so accustomed to having him. They were so used to having an experienced profiler on their side. The only problem: he left without a trace.

Not only did he leave, but he left Doctor Spencer Reid heartbroken. Reid loved the older profiler, he really did, so his disappearance has been tearing Reid apart. Reid's cohorts, being profilers, figured something was wrong. They all knew how Reid felt about Jason Gideon. It was just too obvious.

Hotch contemplates something for a moment, and, apparently, decides to go for it. "Morgan tells me you're worried about Gideon." Reid inwardly winces at the name – but only because it hurts having to remember how much he cares. Feelings of abandonment are all that fill the younger man's mind, lately.

"Yeah. I keep calling him but he doesn't call back." Lie. Well, a half-lie, anyway… Reid had been calling, and Gideon wasn't answering, but Reid wasn't sleeping he was so worried. He was drinking more coffee than normal just to stay awake. But that couldn't possibly have anything to do with the man he loves randomly leaving without a goodbye; could it?

"He's probably at his cabin. That's where he goes when he needs his getaway." Hotch sighed. "Reid, I need your head in this." Hotch's voice brought Reid back to reality, and away from his painful thoughts.

"I know." Reid holds back tears, not wanting to draw attention. "It's just… I love him. He hasn't been himself lately, and I worry. It's what family does." Family, Reid thinks, Gideon's my family. And he just abandoned me... I wonder why... I just wish I could hear his voice... one last time.

"We know you love him, Reid. But did you ever tell him that?" The words echo in Reid's head. 'But did you ever tell him that?' No. But I should have, thinks Reid, Maybe he would've stayed if he knew. Maybe I wouldn't be this hurt. Maybe everything would've turned out okay. If only I'd have told him. If only I wasn't scared.

If only…

Author's note: How'd you like it? While I wasn't planning on writing more, if enough people want me to, I will. Reviews are like…. rainbows on crack. :D
