Matt is so innocent.

Mello stalked through the aisles. After finding a colony of bright vegetables, he snatched up a few and tossed them into the shopping cart trailing behind him.

"Whoa! Easy there!"

Matt bent over the handle to grab the produce. After a quick examination, he declared, "Ugh. This is possibly the worst specimen of tomato I've ever had the displeasure of handling! No wonder all your cooking tastes like cra-"

Mello stared.

"-ah-ahh...nevermind. What I mean to say is you might want to get food that isn't already bruised and nasty, since it sure isn't going to get any better in our fridge."

"If you think you can do better, go ahead."

Trying not to cringe under Mello's glare, he made his way to the bin of vegetables and began to bag the best of them, all the while wondering if he should beg for forgiveness.

Well, he'd live, as long as his shirt didn't burst into flames, so he decided to concentrate on shopping.

When he finished and turned to deposit the plastic bag in the cart, Mello was right behind him.

Matt yelped.

Mello laughed and said, "You had your videogame expression the entire time."

"Huh?"

"It's this face you make when you game. Your tongue kinda sticks out, and, uh, it's hard to explain."

"Okay, then. Ready?"

The blond scrutinized the tomatoes Matt had picked. "I don't see any difference," he muttered.

"I'll show you how to pick good ones! See, this one looks okay, right?"

Mello nodded. Matt grinned and exposed the other side, which appeared to be the rotting residence of many insects.

"Okay, I just wanted to freak you out that time. Actually, it's pretty easy to tell if a tomato is good or not. Just feel it, and see if it's mushy or hard."

He carefully rubbed the vegetable in his palm. "See, feel. This one's good and firm."

Mello had an interesting expression on his face as he inquired, "Is it the same technique for all produce, or do you do something different, for, say, a cucumber?"

The sharp shopper beside him beamed. "Actually, it's not too different!"

"Mm, really? Show me."
